What is a 3D Echocardiogram and why is the ICCHA / Wish Fund raising funds for one? A 3D Echocardiogram machine is one of several emerging modalities to define cardiac anatomy and function. Although still in evolution, 3D echocardiography can complement current 2D echocardiographic techniques in the assessment of valvular heart disease. In a way not possible with 2D echocardiography, 3D echocardiography can allow images to be viewed at different angles that improve the visual...ization of cardiac structures. The better cardiac equipment we have at RIH, the more our cardiologists have the ability to accurately diagnose our patients at our hospital without having them be sent to Kelowna or Vancouver. Heavy snowfall means a lot of shoveling, but for some people, all of that extra physical activity could potentially be life-threatening. According to Heart and Stroke, more Canadians die in the winter months when the chance of heart attack or stroke increases by 10 per cent. The day after a heavy snowfall is when these hospital visits spiked when one-third of men turned up in hospital for heart-related issues.... If you or anyone you know experiences a heart attack in Kamloops, they will have to be transported to Kelowna or Vancouver for further diagnosis and treatment. We do not have the life saving therapies in our local hospital. The ICCHA / Wish Fund is advocating for more acute cardiac care at RIH.
