WHAT NOT TO FLUSH! Putting the wrong material down your drain can cause damage to sewer systems (private & municipal), can create sewer backups, require costly, inconvenient repairs and can injure utility workers and plumbers (see photo courtesy of our friends at the City of Charlottetown). ONLY human waste (urine & feces) and toilet paper should be flushed.... The following items SHOULD NEVER BE FLUSHED. EVER (even if the packaging indicates the item is 'flushable'. Wipes of any kind - waste Disposable diapers - waste Tampons - waste Cotton balls/swabs - waste Unused medication - return to a pharmacy Condoms - waste Facial tissue/paper towels - compost Bandages - waste Fats, cooking oils & grease - compost Paints & automotive oils - take (free) to any Waste Watch Drop-Off Center.

DID YOU KNOW....? E-cigarettes, or vape pens, are electronic devices that simulate tobacco smoking. They consist of an atomizer, a power source such as a battery, and a container such as a cartridge or tank. Instead of smoke, the user inhales vapor. Because of these components, e-cigarettes must be disposed of as Household Hazardous waste and taken to a WWDC, free of charge. Please do not place them in carts or blue bags.

IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING THE RECYCLE COACH APP -- A number of issues have come up with the app and in some cases it is broadcasting incorrect collection information. We are working to resolve these and thank you for your patience. Collection information can be found on our website at www.iwmc.pe.ca or here on our FB page. UPDATE: The app has been temporarily suspended to allow Recycle Coach time to perform upgrades to help improve service. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause those of you using the app regularly.

NATIONAL BATTERY DAY - FEB. 18. Help lead the charge by recycling your batteries at Call2Recycle locations across the Province. IWMC has recently been awarded the 2020 Leader in Sustainability Award by Call2Recycle. Last year we accepted 10,054 kg of used batteries for recycling. Recycling allows reusable components to be used to make new batteries and metal products such as golf clubs, watches, etc. It also keeps harmful toxins out of PEI's landfill.... To find your nearest drop-off location visit call2recycle.ca/pei

ABOUT STORM DISRUPTIONS--The Waste Watch collection service is divided up into several private contracts all providing pickup to five separate regions of the Province. When inclement weather hits, conditions may be completely different at one end of PEI than the other. Should it be necessary to cancel collection, IWMC will typically announce the disruption on a regional basis (unless of course it is an Island-wide shut down of service). Here are a few reminders: * Cancell...ations are decided upon through dialogue with drivers, IWMC management, the Dept of Transportation, and sometimes under direction of the RCMP. Safety of the motoring public is the priority when visibility and/or driving conditions are poor; * KNOW your REGION. Waste Watch Regions do not always follow county lines. A visit to our website will help you confirm your region (or give us a call at 1-888-280-8111). * Cancellation (& alternate pick up dates) are posted immediately on our website and on this site. * Text notifications are sent out via the Recycle Coach App to households impacted by a cancellation. To download, visit the App Store or Google Play (or see the SORTING page on our website for a link). * Help snow clearing operators by removing carts & blue bags from curbside if your region's collection has been cancelled. Thanks!

Perhaps it's the season, or maybe it's due to COVID-19, but some of us have more corrugated cardboard to dispose of lately. Please keep in mind when bundling cardboard to use tape or twine/string. No wire please. Paper bags may be bundled along with corrugated cardboard.
