I have been seeing posts about the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) that you dont get the full $2,000 with EI, CPP, Federal and Provincial tax deducted. My understanding of the CERB is that while it is taxable income CPP and EI are not deducted, you will not be paying into those programs while receiving the CERB. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

For those who do payroll, the CPP & EI rates change on January 1st. CPP employee rates will change from 5.10% to 5.25% and the employer will match that amount. EI employee contribution rate is decreasing from 1.62% to 1.58%. The employers amount on the EI remains at 1.4%. Remember, if you do your payroll in January for the last part of December the new source deductions amounts apply. And the pay will not go on the 2019 T-4s.

What a beautiful dumping day it is. Best of luck to all of the fishers. And best of luck to the captain and crew of the 3 Rascals.

Business owners/fishing captains, its that time of the year...T-4s will soon need to be fillled out. Did your employees have earnings the last week of December and you are paying them in January? Did you know that the income earned in December that you are paying your employees in January is to go on the 2019 T-4s as well as Januarys payroll remittance? Hopefully this link from the CRA website can explain it better than me. https://www.canada.ca//what-report-what-report-on-t4-slips P.S. if you need help with filling out the T-4s and T-4 summary, I can help

To the business folks who has payroll, were you aware of the upcoming changes to CPP and EI employee contributions for 2019? The employer will be required to deduct 5.10% for CPP and 1.62% EI from their employees. Employers contribution remains the same, ex. double the CPP and 1.4% of EI. If you need help with payroll and fishing settlements, give me a shout :)

A Sunday tidbit: ink on thermal paper fades in no time, even if kept in an envelope or file folder. And never, ever leave receipts out where the sun can fade them. I recommend that you photo copy receipts that are printed on thermal paper and then staple the receipts to the photo copy. This applies to anybody who will be saving these type of receipts for income tax purposes.

After taking an exam and my money being accepted haha, I am happy to say that I am now a member of the Institue of Professional Bookkeepers of Canada. Why pay money to be a member of an organization you ask? To network with other bookkeepers and accountants, to continue on with education to build up my bookkeeping skills to help you, the business owner.
