"Realizing that Joseph PROBABLY TOOK YEARS to process the emotions and loss of all the events in his life. That he didn't see his brothers for the first time in Egypt and immediately forgive them. Sometimes it seems like biblical heroes are EFFORTLESSLY righteous. It's very encouraging to look at the full story and see not only that they are more like me than I thought, but also they have to WORK to be right with God and others- and it doesn't always happen in the blink of a...n eye. Also that feelings are not sin...I still try to talk myself out of feeling the "wrong" thing, when it is the ACTIONS that are the sin. I've learned ...the skill to work through painful events in life- without them leaving an open wound FOREVER. And to get from confusion to CLARITY while working through dark times. The confusion of pain and standing with your nose against that wall to SEEING LIGHT and maybe a little bit of understanding from God's perspective. At least knowing that God is STILL THERE through it all. Is that a skill? -Angela, Seattle J2H Jan-Feb 2018

Yesterday my husband and I were sitting in our car in a strip mall parking lot, eating a quick lunch before attending a meeting. We noticed a woman, middle aged, carrying 2 grocery bags, wandering around the parking lot, obviously looking for something. After a 2-3 minutes, I got out and asked if I could help her- "You can't find your car?" I said. Her words are a reminder to all of us of the physical and mental effects of grief. "My dog died suddenly, traumatically yesterday... and and I just can't think. "I'm a grief counsellor", I shared. She stared at me ...."God sent you to me". (Those are not words I often hear in Vancouver, British Columbia.) In 10 minutes, in a parking lot with a stranger, I walked beside her in her new grief. Thank you Sheryl Cook & Farrar Moore for equipping me to touch a life, pulsing with confusion and loss, with understanding and empathy. See more
