Keep an eye out for suspicious activity! A resident in Weekend Estates has reported that security surveillance recorded a dark colored (likely black) newer Dodge pickup parked overnight on their lane which then moved further into the subdivision. The vehicle was reported to RCMP. Please do your part to keep an eye out on our community and ensure you promptly report all suspicious activity to the RCMP. And if you haven't already done so, please join the Holborn Rural Crime Watch Association. For more details and an application form please visit our web site at https://jackfishlake.ca/crime-prevention/

Just a reminder that with the warmer weather here, the lake ice is increasingly unstable. We have received reports of people still driving vehicles on the ice. Please be cautious.

UPDATE If you purchased a moss ball after January 1, 2021, it must be destroyed by following our guidelines linked here and pictured below: https://bit.ly/3...rCDJtK It is VERY important that you DO NOT dispose of anything (moss balls, water, plants, rocks, etc) by flushing it down the toilet, dumping into a drain or waterway, or putting it into the compost. It is critical to properly destroy these materials in order to protect Alberta’s aquatic ecosystems. as live zebra mussels, which are an invasive species, have been detected in moss balls being sold in Alberta. Destroying all moss balls that have been purchased in Alberta this year needs to occur, whether you can visibly see mussels or not. Mussels that have been discovered by AEP staff have ranged in size from being barely visible to extremely small. Here’s what we know: We have received reports from the public who found mussels in their moss balls. One person had purchased their moss balls at the beginning of February. We are working closely with our partners in other jurisdictions and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency to trace shipments that were received in the province. We are contacting pet and plant stores to have them remove moss balls from their shelves and halt sales immediately. If stores have moss balls in stock, our team is seizing them under the Fisheries (Alberta) Act. Our lab team sampling the moss balls have confirmed they contain zebra mussels (Dreissena polymorpha); water samples are being tested to see if the microscopic larval form (called veligers) of mussels are present. Thanks to everyone who is helping us to spread the word (and not the mussels!). Please continue to share this information. Learn more about aquatic invasive species here: https://bit.ly/2O86MXL

MULTIPLE REPORTS OF GARBAGE LEFT ON LAKE BY ICE FISHERMEN We have received numerous reports over the last few weeks of garbage being left on the lake by people ice fishing. This is not only disgusting behaviour as it pollutes the water but it is also illegal. There have been repeated incidents of littering by someone using a red icefishing tent off the point of Lake Avenue, and garbage and burnt fire logs being left on the ice in Amity Bay. We encourage anyone who notices individuals leaving garbage on the lake to report it along with vehicle descriptions and licence plate numbers to Parkland County Bylaw Enforcement. We also thank those residents and visitors who are not only picking up after themselves but are cleaning up after others in the interest of ensuring garbage is not left on the lake.

STAY OFF THE ICE. We are very sorry to report that a resident lost his life Friday after falling through the lake ice. We advise all residents and visitors to stay off the ice. The ice is not thick enough to sustain the weight of side by sides, quads or snowmobiles. We have received reports from residents that the ice ranges in depth between three and eight inches, and that there are still spots on the lake with soft ice. Please stay off the ice. Be cautious and stay safe.
