Some thoughts (and music) for your Thursday - There seems to be a nearly weekly need to test some sort of system. Remember that long announcement I posted this morning (Friday, October 9). Well... ... apparently there has been a lot of confusion today over one statement in the Premier's Announcement yesterday that has resulted in a flood of calls to the Dept of Health. So here is an update to what I wrote this morning:... NB Department of Health has clarified that masks are to be worn at all times in the service, unless you are medically exempt, or unless you are actively preaching or leading from the platform in some way (reading, singing, etc). Thank you again for your patience and understanding. Again, remember that our service can be accessed via Livestream at jubc.ca.

Hey everyone. We live in strange times. That's not the first, or last time you will hear that. You have heard, or heard of, Premier Higg's announcement yesterday concerning mandatory masks in public places. What does that mean for us? As leadership at JUBC we obey our Government leaders in their efforts to protect us and lead us. We urge all citizens to do the same, regardless of personal opinions on mask use, which are many and varied. We respect that the Government must con...sider all options and land where they believe is in the province's best interest. We believe that when we moved back into the building on September 27th for Sunday worship, we did so with a rule which was optional for us then, but which is now mandatory as of Thursday, October 8. That rule made masks mandatory for everyone who entered the building and moved about the building. Therefore we are already compliant, since we have been requiring this for the past 2 Sundays. The change is that mandatory masks are no longer our choice to require, but rather our responsibility to enforce. Ahhh, but what about "continuous mask usage"? Our requirement has included the option to remove your mask within your bubble, and ONLY when you are SEATED at your bubble. Does this announcement change that? We have discussed that, including with our MLA. We believe that the Government announcement addresses that with the following line in yesterday's announcement: Continuous mask use will be required in seated venues even when there is one-metre physical distancing. 6. The key there is "ONE METER physical distancing". We interpret this to mean that masks must remain on if bubbles are situated anything less than the 2m/ 6 feet requirement which has always been with us... even if we were to distance 1m apart. But OUR BUBBLES are 2m apart. 7. THERFORE, it is our reasonable interpretation of the announcement that you may remove your masks in your bubble. Again, this is only true when you are SEATED, not standing near, your bubble. 8. MASKS are still mandatory at ALL times when you are not seated at your bubble. We must insist on this for everyone who enters our building Sunday mornings. 9.
