You could be waiting at a stop light, one foot on the brake, your head forward, and watching for the light to change. Suddenly, your car is hit from behind. Ten pounds of inertia resists the acceleration but your seat feels 30 mph of impact. A compressive force straightens your AP spinal curve against this inertia.
