The highest drafted Black player in NHL history is playing for Team Canada in the 2021 World juniors and is also notably of Jamaican heritage. As the youngest player on Team Canada, Quinton Byfield is a young role model for all people of colour as well as Jamaicans alike. Selected second overall by the Los Angeles Kings, expectations are high for the six foot five 220 pound player. Another example of Jamaicans making an impact in the sport of hockey. #QuintonByfield #Jamaica #teamcanada #byfield #hockey #WorldJuniors #edmonton #sudbury #BuffaloSoldiers #hockeylife #hockeyisforeveryone

Social unrest has caused professional sports to come to a halt since the return to play. Leagues including the NBA, WNBA, MLB, ATP, WTA, and the MLS have all cancelled games due to social unrest in the United States of America. ................. The cancellations underscore an emerging new reality that leagues and players do not exist outside of global issues. Currently the NHL has no plans to postpone its current playoff series.

August 1st 1834 marks the end of slavery in the British Colonies. Emancipation Day commemorates the Abolition of the Slavery which became law on this day. Many former European colonies in the Caribbean commemorate the emancipation of enslaved people of African decent on Emancipation Day as well as the abolition of serfdom and other forms of involuntary servitude. We celebrate with the whole of the Carribean and World on this day. Happy Emancipation Day 2020.
