A message from the President of James Printing and Signs. Good evening everyone. The traditions we look forward to each year have been dramatically affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. One event that will look different will be the Remembrance Day service at the cenotaph due to limits placed on social gatherings. The sale of poppies will also look different as the Legion finds a way to sell them safely and protect the proud veterans we’re accustomed to seeing in full unifor...m outside banks, on street corners and in malls. After we printed and installed the banners honouring our veterans in downtown Bowmanville, our Business Manager, Morgan James Shanahan, came up with the idea of helping the Legion by having us print lawn signs available to the public with a minimum $2 donation to the Branch 178 Poppy Fund. Morgan has a special interest in doing this as she’s the granddaughter of Captain John M. James and the fifth generation to run our family business. We had no idea this project would be so successful. We’ve been swamped at our new location and we’ve run out of stock several times trying to keep up with demand. We handed out our last Remembrance Day sign at 5:00PM on Friday night. During our 166 year history, we have seen the community step up to support a variety of fundraising efforts and we are very proud to be part of such a successful project again. So, how did we do? We set a goal of raising $1,000 for the Legion Poppy Fund. We are thrilled to announce we’ll be presenting the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 178 with $8,585.15!!! Thank you again to everyone involved, your generosity is incredible. A big thank you to our staff for going above and beyond greeting the hundreds of people visiting our office while keeping everyone safe during this pandemic. Please remember to wash your hands, wear a mask, physically distance and most important of all, be sure to thank a veteran for the sacrifices they made for the freedom we enjoy today. Your generosity has been incredible and we’ll do our best to source more material to meet demand. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, our supply of some plastics has been affected.
