As announced last month, Al Makkah Calgary Islamic Society has purchased about 100 acers of land on McKnight Blvd., N.E., 10 minutes drive east of the intersect...ion of Stoney Trail and McKnight Blvd. N.E. for a second Muslim cemetery for the Calgary and the surroundings. Yesterday, a community consultation meeting was held at the Jamia Masjid Gumbad-e-Khizra, Calgary, NE which was attended by several Muslim religious, cultural and social organizations. Following are the highlights of the discussion points. Almost 100 acers land Total purchase price $950,000 Down payment of $100,000 was made by the members of the management committee and their close friends. (this includes Qardh-e-Hasanah). No public fundraising has been done yet. The outstanding purchase price of $850,000 to be paid off ASAP. Once the outstanding amount is paid off and the title is transferred, land-use change application can be submitted at the Rocky View County. Initial consultation; soil testing, water level, etc. and pre-approval planning have been completed. After the land use change approved by the county, development of cemetery will start. This is a lengthy process and is expected to be completed in few years. OPERATIONS Complete end to end funeral and burial services to be provided onsite at the cemetery. Membership fee and donations from the community will be used to pay the operational expenses. However, funeral services will be completely free for all Muslim families. Onsite funeral home facilities will include; freezer storage, washing, coffin, salatul Janazah, Fateha, dua and sisters' area for prayers. We welcome feedback, comments and suggestions from the community members.
