Let's talk about survivors. Objects that were made mid Tuesday morning and that are still going years after their design life. Like this toothbrush here that's at least 312 (toothbrush) years old. I claim no magical longevity techniques, just luck. Show us your survivors!

I discovered a hundred year old paper shim from this blanket box. What product would have a "patent after glow"? Any guesses?

Followers, It's been a hard year, for all of us. When the Thing happened in March, my business ground to a sudden halt. The permanent closing of Musicworks means that half of my business has now disappeared. Thankfully that gave me lots of time for my number 1 job, keeping my wife and kids fed and happy. Therefore, when I was contacted by a Kanata company last week about a regular position it was a hard thing to say no to.... OEM light cord switches are terrible. Thankfully there are good replacements. Another lamp saved from the junk heap.

Time for guess the innards! This is going to be a hard one, although youve proven me wrong every time before.

Think of batteries as buckets of electrons. As they age (cycle), the bucket shrinks and theres less room for charge. The charger knows nothing of the size of the bucket, only when its full. So a charged dead battery will show full on the charger, which it is, but will quickly empty because it doesnt have the capacity it used to. They are also leaky buckets which becomes important during storage as a completely empty (or completely full) bucket is causing permanent damage. Keep the bucket between 80 and 20 % for nearly infinite life.

Brush very carefully three times a day to stop saddle decay... Thankfully saddles are easier to replace than teeth and last just as long.

The nice thing about high power stuff is that the problems are usually fairly obvious.

Its raining turntables! This is number 4 in the last 2 weeks. Make sure to go visit Alan for your vinyl needs, although Im not sure if he has this one...

Jamisons troubleshooting rule #1. Its software. If its not, then check again because it probably is. If its really not software, then its a connector, which this e-bike has in spades. First repair I get to take for a test ride!

Dehumidifiers get really gross and plug up and start leaking everywhere. Clean your filters!

Check out the crazy innards of this powered wireless speaker. They went to great lengths to make sure none of the wires rattled, however its now unrepairable because of all the glue.

Heres an easy guess the innards. Technology is certainly improving, but the old stuff just looks so much better on the insides. This one is not worthy of a prize other than bragging rights.

These switches for this amp were expensive and took a long time to get here, but they would have been a pain to figure out a replacement for. Good for another 20 years.

Heres a milestone, first 500ml of oil soaked into your fretboards.

This is supposed to be a 1000uF capacitor. If you look closely at the top, you can see that 9750uF have leaked out. Thankfully easy to replace!

With the kids at home and my wife working I havent had much of a chance to work, but managed to sneak in this new nut for a bass.

Were back, but all quarantined in the house for 2 weeks. So I will be imposing a 3 day quarantine on all equipment coming in and going out. Work will take a lot longer with the kids home as well. Good luck to everyone!

Speaking of shielding, this is the guitar I built a few years ago. Its made from hammered brass, an excellent shielding material and has no unwanted noise.

Guitar/bass getting noisier? Could be your cavity shielding breaking down like it was on this instrument. I used a combination of copper tape with conductive paint to get into the corners.
