In the spirit of #valentinesday2021, I’ll share some personal takeaways from my 2 year journey with my partner so far: Every relationship goes through these 3 stages: 1) honeymoon/romantic love - an altered state of consciousness 2) power struggle - sleeping with the enemy 3) either a break up or breakthrough - the conscious relationship. It takes time to consciously build a life that you both want and feel excited for. We unconsciously attract a partner that has the po...sitive and negative qualities of our primary caregivers. Especially if we’ve had difficulties with one parent over another, if we examine our patterns carefully, likely our partner will have qualities similar to that of our most troubled parent. I am no exception. Our personalities and how we relate to others did not form in a bubble but rather in relation to other family members and how we related with them. Every family, no matter how similar, will have its own unique culture, spoken / unspoken rules, and values. Coming together may be challenging and it also impacts our family. We are all unconsciously or consciously trying to heal from our past traumas. Life is not perfect and we humans are certainly not perfect either. Thus, trauma is a result of life happening. The breakthrough is that relationships are meant for healing. This will likely be lifelong. I am thankful for my primary relationship for the journey + lessons so far. I wish each and every single one of you a wonderful Valentine’s Day and day of celebrating love, journeys, and lessons learned

In celebration of #Valentinesday, I wanted to share one the most impactful breakthroughs I’ve gotten from this impactful relationship book: #gettingtheloveyouwant by @harvilleandhelen : Experiencing empathy, the freedom to explore, trust, and insight can reset your default reactions to a more curious, tolerant, and confident stance. Because our brains are plastic, consistently positive experiences do stimulate existing neurons to adapt and connect in different pathways. Nurt...uring relationships help us grow psychologically and neurally in ways that are not possible in nonnurturing relationships. As adults, our most important opportunity for a nurturing relationship comes through committed partnership. It’s a breakthrough to realize that the purpose of committed relationship is not to be happy, but to heal. And then you will be happy! Happy Valentine’s everyone!
