The Lotus Centre (formerly Central Nova Women’s Resource Centre) got its start in 1999, founded by a group of women working together in a class at the NSCC Trur...o Campus. Today they are proud to continue to provide supports, services, and resources to the women and girls in our community free of charge. These supports include one-on-one support sessions with our women’s support worker, advocacy, accompaniment, empowerment-based programming, referrals to other community agencies, as well as access to free gently used clothing and hygiene supplies (tampons, pads, shampoo, soap, etc.). Please note that due to Covid19 restrictions they are currently offering their services remotely; either online, over the telephone, or with contactless pick up for hygiene supplies. We also want to thank members of our Speakers Bur...eau for their contributions of time and knowledge in the making of this video and to Jeff Fish and Catherine Brown of FPS (Filet Production Services Inc.) for helping us tell our story. We are please to introduce the video for all our online viewers. We are all Treaty People illustrates the commitment from the Mi’kmaw community and the province of Nova Scotia to teach Treaty Education in all classrooms, grades and schools, the general public and public service across Nova Scotia. Treaty Education refers to the process of creating a greater understanding of the Mi’kmaq, of inherent Aboriginal rights; recognition of the Peace and Friendship treaties as historical and living agreements; continuing the relationships between Mi’kmaq and all peoples of Nova Scotia.
