Trying something out here. Sharing directly from my online store. Even though I painted this in 2019, it seems relevant now - lockdown view from the studio/office. I love the intensity of the blue sky and interplay of light and shadows on these sunny "bluebird" winter days. Of course I took a few liberties with the colour to help relay the mood and bright feeling.

Day 2. Spirit of the Winter Forest. I have a thing for trees. I did not feel alone here, in a good way. While complimentary colours are often featured in my artwork, I also love and am drawn to more monochromatic scenes. Winter is good at simplifying scenes with blankets of snow, and on overcast days such as the case here, colours are muted. Painting more monochromatically helps to reset the palette in my eyes, especially in between colourful paintings. This scene is from along the trails at Conservation Halton's Crawford Lake Conservation Area, just steps away from the Bruce Trail that passes through the area. #CanadianArtist

Day 1. Winter WanderLand. I was challenged on my personal Facebook by @VictoriaPearce to share my latest work, over 5 days (I thought I'd share them here, too, though I am a day behind). Well, I have been creatively constipated lately. However, I am loving the winter vibes and fresh snow right now, and getting out for lovely winter walks. I know everyone does not feel the same way or always see the beauty in winter, so I thought I'd share a few of my relatively-recent painti...ngs where I tried to imbibe a sense of beauty, peace, and joy that only winter can provide. . Winter WanderLand features a scene from along the trails at Conservation Halton's Mount Nemo Conservation Area, which also hosts a small portion of the Bruce Trail. Being along the Niagara Escarpment, it is also in one of UNESCO's World Biosphere Reserves. . In this scene, you can see a main-trail blaze on one of the trees. It was nice that one other person had been on the trails before me that morning to mark the trail in the fresh snow. The atmosphere was slightly hazy, just a few degrees below freezing, no wind, silent ... still. The crisp fresh air filled my nose and lungs with cool energy, exhaled in a warm, misty cloud. The sun's tentacles warmed me as they streamed in through the dormant trees. This popular painting has sold, but prints in a few media types and styles are available in my online store - link in bio if you'd like to explore. #canadianartist

I love walking in the woods on winter days like this!! How about you? Can you feel the warmth of the sun filtering through? The sun felt so good on this frosty, still, crisp day and this spot compelled me to stop for a few moments, close my eyes and face the sun, then breathe deeply and slowly for a few breaths while I absorbed the quiet stillness and regenerating touch of the sun's rays on my face and through my black winter coat. This scene is from along the trails at Rattl...esnake point. The trails were mostly icy, with some patches of squeaky snow underfoot. I passed this spot twice: once on the way out the Buffalo Crag Lookout, along a Bruce Trail side trail, (Iroquoia section), and then back along the flatter conservation area trails for a lovely little loop. Here, I was standing on the Conservation Authority trail, facing toward the Niagara Escarpment edge and the Bruce Trail side trail, which comes down that hill from the left. This original 12x12 inch oil painting has sold. Prints are available in my online store. #canadianartist #healthyhikes

Transitions - or more accurately, heavy wet snow on autumn leaves in the valley. Last year around this time. Might be hard to pick out the snow, but it was an overcast day along the Bruce Trail at Grindstone Creek, with heavy wet snow to start the day. I always find that the dampness accentuates the colours. Some of the wet snow pulled the still-golden leaves down onto the river valley ground, while many leaves remained in the trees. After a hike, I painted this in my studio, à la prima, or more like the style I use when I’m painting on site. It’s more immediate and direct, painting wet into wet. Happy to have sold this 12x12-inch gem during our recent fundraiser for the Bruce Trail Conservancy, with 30% of the proceeds going to the BTC, and 10% to the Burlington fine Arts Association.

Happy Thanksgiving!! To celebrate autumn and Canadian Thanksgiving, I decided to give away this painting. A huge congrats to Diane, who won the draw. I’ve sent details by email.

In celebration of Bruce Trail Day today, I am happy to report that with the help and contributions of many, we raised just shy of $7000 for the Bruce Trail Conservancy through our Bruce Trail Inspired Art Show at The HUB last week. This money will go toward the conservancy’s mission of preserving a ribbon of wilderness, for everyone, forever. To read more about the show and all the contributors I could remember, please check out my blog post (the first in a real long time) at https://www.janetjardine.com//bruce-trail-inspired-art-sho

Resilience. Showing the juxtaposition of the underpainting with the final painting. I love patterns in nature.
