I am pleased to announce that the Janet Kinsey Music Studio is having our Spring Recital on Tuesday April 28 at 7pm as originally scheduled. The location is a wee bit different than planned--students will be in the comfort of their own homes--but everyone will get a chance to share what they've been working on and we will all have the chance to connect with each other. I love the fact that music can bring us joy, and bring us together, even when we can't physically be in the same space. It'll be lovely to see and hear you all and I can't wait for a great evening!

Hello again my friends. Today's musical moment is brought to you by the number 88. Are you aware that March 28 is International Piano Day? Why is that you may ask? Well I'll tell you. It's because March 28 is the 88th day of the year.( not sure if Leap Year affects that but we're ignoring that!) And??? Count the keys on your piano~ a typical full-size keyboard has 88 keys when you include the black and white keys. To celebrate this auspicious day I'm encouraging you all to p...ick a song or six, pick a time, pick an audience and serenade them with your beautiful music! Consider this a dress rehearsal for our recital coming up at the end of April. While it will not look as it usually does we will, in fact, be having a recital so you need to be ready! Here's a musical challenge for you: we all enjoy playing the music games here together in my studio. So...how about you create a new one while you're at home that you can bring with you when you come back and we'll play it together. Choose a musical skill that you are trying to teach or sharpen and go from there.Things like note naming, time signatures, key signatures, rhythm reading, etc. Have fun and I can't wait to try your creations! Hello to my wonderful students! As you know by now we will be closed for an additional week attached to March Break after which we will assess where we're at and go virtual if necessary. In the meantime, here's a challenge for my younger piano students: go back to the beginning of the book you are currently using and play through all the songs you've learned to date, in the order in which they appear, maybe one or two at a time. If you've just graduated to a new book go back... to your previous one and work through it, too. You'll be amazed at how far you've come this year so far! For my older lovelies~if you've got one of my music library books on loan start at the beginning and sight read a song a day. You'll keep your skills sharp and maybe discover a new song you absolutely love! If you're working in a method book, choose a new song and start working on it hands apart. Start playing a song right in the middle and play to the end then go back and play the beginning. Here's another idea: list all the technical work you know on a piece of paper ( scales, triads, formula patterns, arpeggios, etc) . Cut the piece of paper into strips, one technical element per strip. Stick them all in a jar and pull one out at a time. Test your skills! Have fun! Keep playing! Vocal students: go online and find the song and appropriate arrangement online. Sing along, practice your part, learn another part just for fun! Practice warm-ups, invent a new one to share when we can be together again. Stay well everyone and remember, without music life would B flat! xo

Hi Treble Clefs, This is a PSA letting you know that I am cancelling class tonight due to the weather ( on Nov 12??? Egad!) but am offering a make-up class on Thursday night from 6:30 to 7:15 with Legato. Hope to see everyone there~stay safe tonight.

The countdown is on: new music is purchased, old music sorted, filed or purged, studio re-vamp is done, students have been contacted and my teaching schedule relatively organized! Bring it on, I say, bring it on!!
