What does a radio, a deck of cards, 2 jugs of water, a duck whistle, and 2 Beatles' Songs have in common? Come find out at Newfangled's Uncaged! #2: Saturday, 1...5 February @ 2pm with pianist Barbara Pritchard and Janice I Jackson which unpacks the music of John Cage and composers who were influenced by him. Shake off the winter blues with John Cage's piano solo "Water Music", involving a radio, a deck of cards, two jugs of water and a duck whistle. Practicing this work has been a wonderful antidote to the winter blues for Barbara. It's hard to blow a duck whistle into a bowl of water and NOT laugh. Janice will be singing some of Cage's intriguing vocal works and presenting his theatrical non-singing songs! Barbara will be playing a few engaging and amusing piano Impromptus by Canadian composer John Weinzweig. Together we will be presenting two of Udo Kasemets lovely "Airs and Mirrors", as well as a couple of really fun interpretations of Beatles songs by Dutch composer Louis Andriessen. Newfangled and Halifax Public Libraries present Uncaged! Saturday, 15 February, 2020 at 2:00 pm Paul O'Regan Hall, Halifax Central Library 5440 Spring Garden Road Halifax Admission: FREE!
