Japan Market is based out of Vancouver but our goal is to connect with Japanese Canadian communities across Canada. We would like to offer a virtual space where vendors and customers can connect, and share Japanese culture. Today marks a grim milestone in Japan's history. 10 years ago today, we witnessed the Great East Japan Earthquake, and the subsequent tsunamis, and the deaths of thousands of people. This earthquake was the largest recorded in Japan and the fourth largest recorded worldwide since modern record-keeping started in 1900. Over 15,000 lives were lost in the days surrounding the incident. The Fukushima reactors had meltdowns, which displaced even more Japanese citizens, which meant... even if you survived, your life was drastically changed. On this day, 10 years later, we, the board of Japan Festival Canada, would like to honour and commemorate the lives of those lost. Our hearts and condolences are still with the families of those both lost and displaced by this terrible and tragic event. We ask you, our supporters, to take a moment of your day, to remember the lives of those lost. As always, we thank you and we pray that these tragedies never befall Japan again. Wishing you all good health and happiness, please stay safe, and to our friends and family in Japan, please know we are thinking of you especially on this day.
