Ontario corn season is just around the corner. Can't wait to devour the sweet niblets off the cob, AND to make Corn Tempura (tomorokoshi-age)! Positively crispy and addictive with bursts of sweet corn in every bite! . . I love foreign food films, especially Japanese that has food interwoven effortlessly with everyday life... but with food scenes leaving a huge impact! This was the case when I watched Still Walking by director Hirokazu Kore-eda showing lots of scenes in th...e kitchen with the Yokoyama family preparing various meals. The most memorable food that caused my eyes to grow wide and my appetite to go wild was of crispy corn tempuras; these were casually eaten by hand as a snack by the young Yokoyama children as they romped and played or sat around for conversations. Imagine my delight when I found a DVD insert "Cooking with Kore-eda"- a series of the screenplay's recipes? Of course... the corn tempura, based on the director's mom's recipe. No need to mess around with it as it cooks up beautifully, but I've added my own tips to make it that much more fail-proof . Check out the recipe on my blog: http://susanssavourit.blogspot.com/2014//corn-tempura.html See more
Talk about AmaZinG... Constant physical activity and noise naturally trains the concentration! Our dated structured classroom-style school curriculum needs a complete overhaul. Kids are meant to be outdoors, and we should set-up to teach as such...
Did you know there are a myriad of ways to serve Japanese sushi rice -- each distinctive and mouth-watering in its own presentation? How about four different ideas all inspired by the humble seasoned vinegared rice -- a little sweet, a little salty, a little tangy and a whole lotta deelish and fixin's- from onigiri rice balls to vegetarian maki rolls, poke bowl, and DIY sushi wraps. http://susanssavourit.blogspot.ca//creative-ways-with-sush
