Indigenous Tourism is the new Buffalo. Today I’m in Mohkinstsis (Calgary). We have gathered, albeit well-spaced and with all Covid protocols observed to deliver Indigenous Tourism Alberta ‘s Cultural Awareness Program to those people who long to live in a better world. A world that respects everyone and everything. There are many issues that stand in the way of everyone moving forward together in a manner that is best suited for all. The biggest issue is a lack of unde...rstanding. The key is education. I am grateful for today and for those who strive for a better future. #thespiritoftreaty Let the great world spin. Total badass. #drivebyshooting This young Iyâpêw Môshwa has taken up residence in the middle of the road. Uhmmm...not good.... As getting hit by a car is the highest cause of unnatural death for the pisiskiwak here in the Asiniwaciya, it would seem an odd thing to do. But he and other animals are drawn to it by the salt that we lay down to break up the snow and ice. That is a measure taken to protect you and I, so that we don’t slide and lose control of our autos. It is not designed for Môshwa’s benefit. So, please, in exchange for the gift, please consider the consequences and take good care when driving. On behalf of all of our brothers and sisters, the animals who have called #jaspernationalpark home long before any of us were ever here, Maarsii-Thank you. Please help spread the word. #allmyrelations Iyâpêw Môshwa-Bull Moose Pisiskiwak-Animals Asiniwaciya-Rocky Mountains : Joe Urie @indigenous.tourism.alberta @destinationindigenous @travelalberta @explorecanada @parks.canada @tourismjasper #jasper #canada #IndigenousCanada #DestinationIndigenous #IndigenousAlberta #IndigneousAB #métisguide #abmetis #turtleisland #languageisculture #keepitwild #exploreCanada #explorejasper #explorealberta #explore #canadianrockies #jaspernationalpark #besttourever #nature #therealjasper #ilivehere #wildernessculture #beautifulanimals #respectnature #ITACyes #ITAyes #YesRockyMountaineer #allcreaturesgreatandsmall See more

Ice builds from the shoreline. Gathering strength. A cold hand to help you sleep. Soon your voice will grow a hush. The last thing heard before the long good night of winter. Pipon seems impatient this year. I say, let it come. Have you ever walked a frozen river beneath towering mountains? It is pure magic. Wâpatihk and Yexyexéscen (Yuh-hai-hus-kun.) Mountain Goat and the Mountain of the spiral road. Neither of them are who you think they are. Mashkwa moves swiftly through the snow as it falls gently to the earth around him. To the ear that can hear, his own, the near silent words being whispered by the snow are clear: the long sleep of winter is near. It’s time to find a safe place to dig in and curl up Mashkwa. Go quick. He moves with an immediacy that says it is so. #seeyouinthespring ... It’s an amazing thing to see a Bear. I miss them a lot when they go away and yearn for that moment when they return to the landscape. How about ? Have you ever seen a Bear? Mispon (It’s snowing). Môshwa remains unfazed. Nîpin (summer) was good. Takwâkin (Autumn) was great. Therefore, Pipon (Winter) shouldn’t be a problem. Môshwa will be alright. The temperature dropped, the door got stuck, and Pipon (Winter) slipped into the valley. Môshwa and Oskâyis look for the last of summer’s salad as the snow falls lightly around them. If you were to go slowly, if you went quietly, you might hear Iyâpêw calling for her longingly. Those low, slow moans and grunts that say I love you.
