James Bay Children’s Chorus

I am so proud of these children. We have not been together for in-person rehearsals since March 2020, but they have continued to attend weekly online rehearsals, powering through wifi troubles, device breakdowns, and all the struggles that come with virtual rehearsals. Through all this they have developed new skills, grown in leadership and amaze me with their enthusiasm. We have enjoyed visits from real, live composers (Mark Sirett of Kingston, Ontario and Karen Linford o...f San Francisco). We have been visited by the co-directors of SingYourJoy Young Adult Choir, Gordon Miller and Christine Chepyha. During the past year we have learned to navigate through reading sheet music, exploring new songs. Possibly the most fun of all is the brief time before and after rehearsals when we can chat, and have fun with video filters! Enjoy this virtual recording by the singers of JBCC. Emerge Youth Chorus (for JBCC singers who are almost 12 and older) has been learning a song by American composer, Karen Linford, with words by Malala Yousafzai. Today Karen dropped in for a visit, answering some of our questions, and talking about composing the song "Here I Stand".
