Tax deadlines extended

For our Canadian colleagues, I was made aware yesterday of a new scam that we should be aware of and warning our clients about. It is a fake CRA demand letter ...saying that if you do not pay, they will put a lien on your house. For those of us that have seen real demand letters, this is very real looking. The last 3 digits of the SIN was blanked out and was correct. They included the slip to pay at the bank. After much research and several calls with the CRA, the only real differences were that the coding/routing code on the bottom of the payment slip would direct the money to a non-CRA account. But how would anyone know that is not privy to CRA's routing code? There was also no mention of the option to pay online through CRA. So if anyone receives this letter, have them call CRA or check the balance through Rep a client to be safe. Thanks, Tanya for the heads up.
