Grandpa - Frank Flood with Armored core mascot Napper Tandy at CFB Borden! Some time after WW I Frank Flood post WWII where he retired from the Military at CFB Borden teaching on the tanks. Dad - John Flood as an Air man in the Air Force, he was lucky enough to work on the engines of the most advanced Jet fighter of that time, the Avro Arrow.... My Dad sent this story, worth the read to the end Port Rowan, Ontario Sept. 2005, first day of school, Martha Cothren, a History teacher did something not to be forgotten. She removed all the desks in her class. As kids entered the room they discovered no desks. 'Ms. Cothren said you can't have a desk until you tell me how you earned the right to sit at one. They thought, maybe it's our grades. Maybe it's our behaviour.' She told them, 'No, it's not even your behaviour.' they came and went, Still no desks, Kids called their parents to tell them and by afternoon news crews had come to report about the crazy teacher who had taken all the desks out As students found seats on the floor, Martha said, no one has been able to tell me what you have done to earn the right to sit at a desk normally in this room. Now I’m going to tell you.' She went to the door of the class, opened it and 27 Veterans, all in uniform, walked into the room, each carrying a desk. The Vets placed the desks in rows, then stood against the wall. By the time the last soldier set the final desk in place the kids started to understand, just how the right to sit at those desks had been earned.Martha said, 'You didn't earn the right to sit at these desks. These heroes did it for you. They placed the desks here for you. They went halfway around the world, giving up their education and interrupting their careers and families so you could have the freedom you have. Now, it's up to you to sit in them. It is your responsibility to learn, to be good students, to be good citizens. They paid the price so that you could have the freedom to get an education. So my mom won this bench in a golf tournament 10-15 yrs ago, they had it in their garden where it rotted and faded over the years. Mom was gonna throw it out but asked if Tanya wanted it and she said yes (for me to restore) My Dad unknowingly took it on as his project to restore it, supposedly they decided to keep it! ...
