High interest rates keep us stuck in a minimum payment only cycle, which extends the cost of repayment and how long it takes to pay off debt. Lower interest rates either: 1) lower your minimum payments so they take pressure off your budget; and/or 2) allows you to pay debt faster because more of your payment goes to the principle of the loan.
