A message of possibility to the JBA Community from Jeb Beach... I’ve long been known for being a positive guy. A few years ago, I did some reflecting on that, I analyzed what that label ‘positive’ really meant for me. I arrived at the conclusion that it came from an instinct to always nurture the sense of possibility for myself and to help others find it for themselves. While I think that instinct runs deep for me, the actual application/actualization of it is something I ...earned and developed over time, mostly through struggle. A key to growth through my life has been to learn to actively work and rely upon that instinct when everything changes. I can think of four times in my life when my world changed over night, and suddenly everything seemed impossible. The first time was monumental at the time, but in retrospect wasn’t a very big deal compared to what else life can throw at us. I was a junior to the whole experience. The second time I almost didn’t make it through. I was alone, isolated from the world and basically waited it out. It changed when I made a simple life decision that had scared me up until then. I started to flourish. The third time, I had my wife and two small children depending on me. Impossible just wasn’t an option that time. As I started to do what I needed to, I found that I was utterly surrounded by active angels who reached out and connected with me. Over time that sense of possible instinct began to burn on its own and has been consistently alive since. It’s no surprise that it’s in my time since then that I’ve achieved more of my journey than ever before. The fourth time was hard. Loss. But because of my accumulated experience, I knew that there was life on the other side. I was able to keep going and keep growing. This week, the fifth time hit. Not gonna lie, it’s a big one. It’s not all happy happy easy stuff. It’s hard. Again. Life is happening in the realest of ways for us all right now. I’ve had to dig deep this week to embrace the instant change that happened and continues to happen for us all. The only real constant is change. CHANGE. That’s the common element behind all of these eras of impossibility. These moments of fear, panic, futility, stagnation, regression all emerge when things change beyond our control and we don’t know what to do or how we are going to do it. Looking back on the events of great change in my life, when that sense of possibility was muted and challenged, today I realize that what I did in response was build out my ability to ADAPT. The fear emerges when the old way is not going to work. It’s not that there’s not a new way to go, it’s that the new way is unknown. Fighting our way our way through the unknown is how we get there. The ease and willingness with which we embrace defining and applying the new way IS Adaptability. Step into the change. There’s life on the other side. It’s new, surprising, and real. Adapt.
