I get this question a lot in puppy class. What do I do when my puppy bites/mouthes me? Here is a very detailed answer. If you have a puppy and you are dealing with this issue, it's well worth the read!
If you have multiple dogs, it is possible to work one in the presence of the other without the one that is watching barking it’s head off, or constantly interrupting your session with the other dog. Here's a look back at "Table Trading".
I am so excited about this Facebook page and Instagram Dog Meets Baby. She has excellent posts and quizzes on dog body language and top tips on safety regarding babies and dogs. If you have a baby or young child and a dog, this account is a great resource to follow!
I’m teaching again on Sunday mornings! Click the link for details. (Covid restrictions and precautions in place, discussed directly with AHS.)
Should you take your dog Trick or Treating? *Opinion post. If you are not interested - scroll on!* My answer is: it depends! But generally speaking, most... dogs will not enjoy it. Consider the following: - Is you dog generally scared by loud noises, sudden movements or people in costume? - Does your dog love people and/or other dogs? - Is your dog comfortable around children specifically? In my opinion, most dogs would far prefer a chew stick or Kong in a quiet room on Halloween than come out with the family trick or treating.
Woohoo! My classes are sold out for the next set. Can't wait to start teaching again.
One week until registration opens for my next set of classes! I will be teaching a 6 week set of Puppy and Introduction to Agility on Sunday mornings at Shape Up. Covid-19 safety protocols are in place including 5 people max per class and mandatory hand washing. You can register here on Tuesday, August 13: www.shapeupagility.com
I'm excited to start teaching again! Covid precautions are in place, we are lucky to have a nice large (beautiful turf) barn to play in. Can't wait to start with a new set of students and dogs. All levels and abilities welcome.
The SCARS family is filled with dedicated supporters. People who give freely of their time and resources to help better the lives of animals in Northern Alberta.... We are grateful for all the help we receive and every contribution matters. We want to recognize a very special person who, for years, has gone above and beyond for SCARS. Paula Bissell has a smile that lights up a room and is a reflection of her generous heart, kind soul, and passionate spirit. A great friend to SCARS, there is a long list of contributions Paula has made to our cause event sponsor, donor, community liaison, rescuer, foster home, transport driver, educator, and volunteer to name a few. Paula never asks for anything in return. Her support is clearly focused on the betterment of the lives of animals and the people within her community. She lives and leads by example, and we are so blessed she has chosen to be a part of SCARS. In recent months, Paula has had to back away from SCARS as she took on a very personal fight of her own with breast cancer. While facing her own battle, SCARS has not been far from her mind. In true Paula fashion, she has decided to commemorate her journey to defeat breast cancer by helping others. We are so grateful to accept her donations. They include: First Prize: Flights for TWO, Hotel and Brewery tour in Victoria, BC Second Prize: One night stay at the Fairmont Lodge, Third prize: One week free camping with hookup and camping supplies at the Lions club campground in Wabasca. Comes with an 18-hole golf pass for two, SCARS knows how fortunate we are to have a supporter like Paula in our corner. In honor of her dedication, SCARS is going to pay it forward to those now helping Paula. If we can raise at least $5,000, we will donate 25% of our raffle proceeds to the Alberta Cancer Foundation. Paula has changed the lives of so many animals through her personal rescue efforts, please join us in supporting her and, of course, all the animals out there still needing our help. The Escape 2020:Raffle for Rescues is being conducted under AGLC license #563606 To purchase tickets: https://go.rallyup.com/8d880c Alberta Cancer Foundation
