Global News has learned that schools will remain online this Monday, and will not be returning to in-class learning. Dr David Williams is expected to make the official announcement at his 3pm press conference. I’d like to hear from families and educators reach out to my office: ... If anyone runs into a child care issue because of the change please contact my office, I will try to help find a solution - NO parent should have to decide between work and childcare due to a last minute education change. Happy to hear that advocacy by residents of Niagara & health care workers will pay off with the delivery of vaccines by early next week. This vaccine is urgently needed in Niagara’s long term care homes, as an additional 26 COVID-19 related deaths were reported today by Niagara Region Public health. Speed is key to protecting our most vulnerable! Unfortunately it is clear that the Ford government is not listening to local experts on vaccinations - experts who have already... done this type of work before with flu shots. I’ll be keeping the pressure up for more details. https://www.iheartradio.ca//niagara-s-top-doc-wants-reside

There is so much to be said here. Our healthcare workers did not deserve this confusing, mixed message from someone in a leadership position. They were on the front lines of COVID-19, and likely did not get a holiday break because the pandemic didn’t take a break. As a (now former) member of the command table Dr. Stewart needed to demonstrate total commitment to the fight against our hospitals becoming overwhelmed, something that simply isn’t possible from a beach somewhere.... If you’re one of the many responsible individuals who stayed home over the holidays please know that your actions may have saved someone’s life. And it’s worth it.

Physicians and health care experts all across the province know that every single day that passes endangers more lives. Ford has used barely more than 50,000 of 140,000 vaccine doses, and it is clear that Niagara is no where in the plan. #Niagara has a crisis of long term care, and our public health leaders deserve to have the tools and plan to save lives now in LTCH/RH. Allison McGeer, an infectious diseases physician at Sinai Health System, said ‘there is no reason why we... shouldn’t have a dose of vaccine into every long-term care resident in [hard-hit] areas of the province by Friday or Saturday. There are volumes of capable people who want to help. We vaccinate people in long-term care all the time.’ https://www.theglobeandmail.com//article-doctors-press-fo/

A year where so many faced incredible struggles, we also saw resilience, and a community that pulled together. I wanted to put together a little look back on this year. From the beginning to the very end of 2020, we know that one thing remains true: We are Strong, Together, Connected. ... Here's to a better New Year ahead! (Please note: many of these images are pre-pandemic)

Mr. Premier, DO NOT FIRE Niagara’s citizen appointees like St. Catharines resident Ed Smith - the same people that helped fix our conservation board in the first place! Niagara knows integrity matters when it comes to our Conservation Board - we all recall the corruption of the last board. It took an activist, a community group, a journalist, a provincial investigation and the outrage of Niagara to fix the failings at the NPCA. Mr. Premier, FIRING our citizen appointees - ...the same ones that brought integrity back to our board - quietly during a pandemic is bad for the environment, bad for accountability and bad for Niagara. Tell Doug Ford that FIRING Ed Smith that fixed our board is the wrong way forward! Add your name to a petition that myself and the other Niagara MPPs will bring to the office of the Premier. I need you to be loud alongside me, and share this petition. https://actionnetwork.org//tell-ford-the-hands-off-the-npca Just because Premier Ford is quietly firing Niagara’s Citizen Appointees does NOT mean we have to be quiet too.

ICYMI: A few weeks back I asked the Minister of the Environment to come sit down with the Mayor and the City of St. Catharines to talk timelines on the former GM Lands. We have been assured that the tests are being analyzed now, and the results will be imminent. We won't be waiting 6 months like last time. The neighbourhoods and residents need peace of mind when it comes to this site and toxic materials.... I want to thank Minister Jeff Yurek for agreeing to meet with Mayor Walter Sendzik and me for this important discussion. #GMLands Read more here: https://buff.ly/2IzPkIW

Restaurants are the backbone for St. Catharines - they create tourism dollars, jobs and it’s part of our identity. We can’t ask restaurants to take on more risk without recognizing they need more support - One has to go hand-in-hand with the other. https://www.iheartradio.ca//niagara-s-ndp-mpps-call-on-gov

We are looking at daily record high COVID case counts, and it's important we diligently move forward in a way that ensures our sacrifices are not lost - but in order for restaurants to survive they need consistency and support. We have built St. Catharines around great restaurants. This is not the time to wind down support for small businesses, when Niagara Regions Public Health department is taking steps to stop the rapid spread of COVID. Premier Ford release funds to help... restaurants get through this time that are being affected by today’s changes in Niagara. https://www.stcatharinesstandard.ca//public-health-orders-

I can say, without hesitation, that I am so grateful for the care and leadership that was shown by the legions today in their adapted ceremonies. The symbols of remembrance were as powerful today as ever before, as we stand together to face the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. I would especially like to acknowledge those who have stepped in to support Canadians at this time of need. Earlier this year, members of our Canadian Armed Forces helped some of our most vulnerabl...e in long-term care facilities. This was a powerful reminder that the call of duty and selflessness often go hand in hand with military service. We are all honoured to pay tribute today. The service men and women from the conflicts of the past sacrificed so much to build a better world for all of us, including those who still serve Canada today. We must ensure that just as our armed forces have always stood up for us, we must also stand up for them. We honour their legacy by guaranteeing the best programs and health care services to support our Veterans. I hope you will join me in honouring these brave individuals on this eleventh day of the eleventh month, and throughout the year. Thank you Royal Canadian Legion Branch 24 and Merritton Legion Branch 138 for holding today’s Remembrance ceremonies. Lest we forget.

This year, share #RemembranceDay gratitude from your home with a poppy wreath in your window, and changing your profile frame. I invite you to share your messages with Veterans, past and present, by writing it out for all to see. Let’s make sure that everyone knows: on this November 11th, We Will Remember. ...
