Something you might not know about me..... . I have a cat problem. . It seems that whenever I feel that tinge to become a momma again, it's always for more fur babies. I try to tell Myles it's cheaper & less stressful than the human kind, but I'm not too sure he's convinced...... . Once, after adopting a cat that turned out to be pregnant we had 11 cats running around our very tiny town house. They even participated in our move to our new home. Just imagine all the adventures that came along with that! . I'll be honest, it's a miracle Myles stuck around! Thankfully we found good homes for the kittens (I may have kept one.. ) . Throw in a snake & some Guinea pigs, we're almost a zoo. I should really be charging the neighbourhood kids an admission fee. . What about you? Do you have a zoo in your house too? I'm often asked why I chose to be a Stylist as well as what my background is... my foundation & everything I have learned has come from my own struggles & frustrations within the world of fashion. Managing a local boutique for several years I met so many people that were just as frustrated, unsure & overwhelmed. And most of them felt completely alone in it all. It was all the drive I needed. I knew it had to be easier. I searched out the knowledge I needed. ...I researched like crazy... I asked questions & I listened. I learned all about fits & fabrics & how to make style accessible to everyone. No matter their personal style, budget or body type. And I'm still learning, every single day. And I love it. I've been a Personal Stylist with Hudson's Bay for over 4 years this November, prior to that I had my own Personal Styling business for about 5 years. STOP doing this right now. . Not investing in new clothes because you want to lose ___lbs first. . I hear this way too often & it makes my heart hurt! You deserve clothes that make you feel fabulous, no matter what frickin size you are!! ... . Are the worn out jeans making you feel any better? What about the occasional non descript t-shirt you throw in the cart when grocery shopping? I'm taking a wild guess that it's a no? . If you want your investment to be focused, that can happen! But don't deny yourself a wardrobe that ensures you feel confident, put together & stylish! How do you make it focused?? Create a style board that inspires you. @pinterest is a great tool to use, or create a file to save posts/images of outfits, fabrics & colours you adore online. Now, I don't want you checking out posts that don't reflect you & your shape. Look for women that look like YOU, this is an opportunity to feel inspired, so be kind to yourself! . Next, take inventory of what's missing from your wardrobe! Create a list of what needs to be updated, as well as pieces you fell in love with from your style board. You can start small or you can go all in. Whatever feels best for you & your budget. Just remember, you would never tell a friend or your child they had to wait until they fit into specific criteria, so Please don't treat yourself that way. . Last night we started organizing our bags for camping. When we were going through the bathing suits we realized that my 10 year old daughter grew out of hers & would need a new one. All she said was: " Mom, it can't make my shoulders look any bigger! I have broad shoulders and I hate them!" I asked her where she heard such a thing & why she was worried. I told her broad shoulders would make her strong, I reminded her that we all have different shapes. No shape is better... than the other... she told me the only shape she wanted was an hourglass shape. Then, she'd be pretty... My heart broke. Then I followed that up with a private freak out session inside my head. Where did I go wrong?! I have tried so hard to teach my girls that they are glorious & beautiful as they are. Whichever shape & size they are. EVERY HUMAN IS. So where had this seeped in? What I had forgotten was that I am not the only influence on her perception of her body. Other family, her friends, whatever she discovers on the internet (don't even get me started on that. ) all affect her vision of herself. So now, I'll be jumping back to step one & trying to figure how I can help her be that confident girl she was at 6. So much from @glennondoyle book #untamed comes up... (A MUST READ!)
