The Province is providing an additional $2 billion in development financing through B.C.'s HousingHub to finance the construction of thousands of new homes for middle-income families. This additional $2 billion will allow HousingHub, a division of BC Housing, to encourage developers and community groups to build new homes for middle-income households by providing loans with lower interest rates than would be otherwise available. In return, developers commit to pass these cons...truction-cost savings through to the tenants and prospective homeowners in the form of more affordable rents and homeownership opportunities. These loans are repaid once construction is complete, allowing HousingHub to reinvest in additional housing, continuing to increase the number of homes built for middle-income households over the 10-year lifespan of the program. Congratulations to Sir Alexander Mackenzie School in Hagensborg and Bella Bella Community School for being 2 of 11 schools selected in the province to participate in the Active School Travel Pilot Program! The Active School Travel Pilot Program will provide $400,000 over two years to the BC Healthy Communities Society to deliver the program. The program will provide funding, information and resources to support activities, such as: - regular events and incentives to increase ...regular walking and biking to school; - assessments, e.g., mapping the best route to school; - skill-building opportunities for students and parents; - expansion of the School Streets project to reduce traffic volume around schools; - incentive programs; - loaner bikes, scooters and skateboards for students; and - amenities and infrastructure improvements, including bike racks and improved signage. The outcomes of this pilot project will inform future initiatives to increase walking and cycling to school for students and their families. https://news.gov.bc.ca/releases/2021TRAN0014-000243 See more
