In the course of my ten years of wedding photography (that makes me feel old, eh?!), I've had the privilege of photographing many anniversary bridal portraits. The reasons to take anniversary bridal portraits vary with each couple; sometimes it's because the wedding day portraits were rushed, sometimes it's a sentimental joy at reflecting on the years and memories since wearing The Dress for the first time, sometimes its because some detail of the original photos was less than ideal (hair style preferences change, for example!), and sometimes its a combination of all the factors. Want to know more about why I love anniversary bridal portraits? Check these out: https://jennimarie.com/reasons-to-take-anniversary-bridal-/

DUDE! How have I not shared this yet?! Back in September, Zoe & Ricky took the ultimate adventure for their wedding portraits and I got to join them! A helicopter expedition is the best way to have epic views for wedding portraits...all the benefit of hiking a mountain and none of the sweat. ;-) It was hit-and-miss, touch-and-go ALL DAY LONG. We'd had to cancel once (lame smoke!) and then it looked like we'd have to cancel again (cue the tears) BUT a little fancy footwork, a... bazillion phone calls (right, Ricky!?), and some thinking outside-the-box and we got to hit the skies. Meghan & Nicole Films was along for the flight, too, and I got in the way of their shots juuuust enough that they were able to create this for me! Just kidding: Meghan wired me for sound before we got in the helicopter. I promise I didn't obstruct any of the video shots. ;-P

Imagine this: showing up on your wedding day with one purpose and ONE PURPOSE ONLY. What is it? To get married surrounded by your dearest family and friends. Not to take pictures, not to pose with your bridal party, not to get it for the ‘gram but JUST to get married while enjoying your guests. If you're considering this route, here's three reasons to plan pre-wedding portraits: 1. Less Wedding Day Stress. It's inevitably a huge day: getting married is a milestone in itself,... but also having family and friends travel in for the celebration? That's a lot of eyes, a lot of logistics, and a lot of potential stress. By taking the romantic, iconic, artistic portraits before the wedding day, you're eliminating one big piece of wedding day stress. (PLUS: Weather is less a concern! Lexi's wedding day was a bit cloudy which made for less heat and more ceremony comfortand since we'd already photographed sunset, we didn't care that golden hour wasn't as glorious!) 2. More time with guests. Plain and simple: if you aren't off taking photos between the ceremony and the reception, you're able to focus on visiting with your guests and making sure they know how valued their presence is. 3. More creative control. Lexi wanted photos at this particular farm but to drive here on the wedding day would have added a LOT of time away from her guests. Plus, we had time to really embrace creative locations and fun camera play (one of my favorite twirling photos, for example, was a huge risk and involved a slow shutter speed and multiple takes..but since we had time to play, I was able to take that risk). Have you ever felt fabulous in your outfit (maybe at a party or on an adventure or just hanging out with friends) and then cringed when you saw the photos afterwards? Have you ever tried to get an amazing photo of a fantastic outfit and then decided afterward that you hate how you look in it? Do you ever stand awkwardly in front of a camera, frozen by the paranoia of how you will look in the photos? ... YOU CAN AVOID THAT horrible FEELING AND I'm breaking it down for you: https://jennimarie.com/how-to-pose-for-photos/
