I love when something I am reading stops me in my tracks. Most recently, it was this: "Thriving as individuals and as a species requires wisely accommodating our human yearning for love and connection" (John Amodeo, Dancing with Fire). Boom. Reread. And again. There is just so much in this one sentence. The first word alone is a game changer. ... There may be nothing more hopeful and purposeful than the concept of ‘thriving’. Surely, as humans, we are meant to thrive. What it actually means to thrive is unique to each of us, but at its root, it means living beyond survival, beyond getting by, beyond ‘meh’. It also means honouring and supporting that which makes us human: our need and desire to love and be loved. Thriving, then, is not a singular, individual experience. It is relational, by nature. My passion and my work leads me daily to this field of ‘relation’ where, personally, I strive to better understand and serve my own relational needs and, professionally, I work with individuals, couples and small teams to develop their own understanding and capacity to relate more skillfully, more ecologically and to love more mindfully.
