Artist tip When you’re working on a painting, don’t forget to step back frequently. As artists we get so honed in on the fine details that we forget to look at the piece as a whole.... My advice is to step back often and review your painting from different angles. Remember your collectors will be appreciating your work from a distance. If you’re feeling as though you’ve hit a wall, or things aren’t going the way you want them to, it might be time to take a break. Either take a few hours, or come back to it the next day. Remember, art is a process! Need advice on other challenges you’re facing with your art? I’m now offering Creative Coaching sessions - send me a message to book your session. Xo Jenn

I’ve not yet outgrown the fear of a blank canvas... and I don’t anticipate I ever will. Oftentimes as artists, we get frozen in fear of messing a painting up. It can be so intense that we stop painting entirely. Just like in life, sometimes we try to see the end prematurely. I have found it very helpful to proceed one small step at a time. ... My encouragement to you is that all you need to know is THE NEXT STEP. Just one. It might take you down a path you least expected - enjoy the process and appreciate the beauty that you create. If you’d like to chat in depth about creative blocks you’re experiencing, I’d love to have a virtual session with you. Shoot me a DM, or send an email to [email protected] Xo Jenn

Would you agree with me that we are not always in control of what happens in this life? I’m learning that it often takes letting go of my agenda before things can happen. On March 25th, I was supposed to pick up a male puppy I was adopting from the States. ... I was devastated when Covid prevented Truman from crossing the border. It felt a bit like the miscarriage I had many years ago. A few weeks later, while painting in my studio, I let all my feelings flow. I was painting in response to a podcast interview between John O’Leary and Steven Curtis Chapman - both are amazing humans! The message was all about Hope. When I stepped back from my canvas, I was looking at Hope. Right there on my easel! Darkness has been may have followed me this past year, but light was waiting for me on the other side. When I found out I was getting a little girl as a puppy, I knew what just to call her :) The painting featured here is the one I painted that day, and I titled it Hope. xoxo Jenn

Vulnerability. It opens up our hearts, and helps us find space for healing. For the first half of my life, I found ways to numb the pain I felt. Whether it be through nicotine, food, exercise or alcohol, I found a distraction to avoid feeling pain. In recent years, enjoying an occasional glass of wine become a nightly ritual. Before long, the evenings felt incomplete without a few glasses of wine. I started to worry that it was becoming an unhealthy habit.... I went to some AA meetings but felt out of place. I tried going cold turkey. I poured myself into my work. I tried switching to tea, but somehow I always found my way back to wine. And then I lost my mom. Everything changed after that. Going through such an immense loss made me feel so deeply. An ocean of wine could not have taken away the pain. I’ve decided to stop drinking wine one day at a time. Now, after several months of being mostly wine-free, I feel more alive than ever, and I’m inspired to share my journey with you. I believe we must feel pain to experience joy. We must walk through dark valleys to enjoy the view from the top of the mountain. Highs and lows are what life is about. They shape us. And we don’t have to walk through them alone. Social media, despite its pitfalls and flaws, gives us a platform on which to connect with each other. So, to all of my community members - thank you for being part of my journey. I can’t wait to feel again, alongside you. Lots of love, Jenn xo
