Heartfelt thanks to my client for sending me this piece which feels important and deeply resonant at this moment in time, or this 'season' of life. "Though it might sound like it at times, wintering does not mean wallowing in sadness. It means accepting sadness. If we don’t allow ourselves the fundamental honesty of our own sadness, then we miss an important cue to adapt, she writes in the book. That notion is freeing. We cannot stop winter’s arrival, and feeling guilty or... ashamed of your winter or trying to ignore it only means that we are not listening to the parts of ourselves that are trying to tell us that something is wrong. There is so much fear around comparing levels of suffering during the pandemic, she said. We don’t need to measure up to know who is suffering the most. What we need is to be compassionate about the way life is incredibly hard. Otherwise, we believe we don’t have the right to complain, and that is often the seed of anxiety and depression. https://www.nytimes.com///katherine-may-winter-covid.html

Feeling the weight of things this week. When there’s nothing to do but accept what’s happening (accepting doesn’t mean liking), when there’s too many things that are not ours to control - the answer for me is mindful self-compassion. Tune into your body, find the feeling and sensations, see if you can name the emotion(s), the thought(s), and notice what’s showing up in your body. ... Place your hand there, for me it’s usually on my chest, feel the warmth of your own touch, see if you can sense any soothing comfort just by allowing yourself to feel the warmth in this moment. Validate your feelings. You’re human. You’re allowed to feel however you feel. That’s just what’s true in this moment. Ask: What do I need right now? What do I need to hear right now? Tend to your needs, if possible. Give yourself the words you’re longing to hear. Repeat as needed. All day long. When things feel heavy, we can be our own sense of comfort, even just for a moment. I hope you’ll practice this and find as much benefit and comfort in validating your humanness as I have. #selfcare #realselfcare #authenticselfcare

Sharing a very useful and informative talk on anxiety in hopes it will help because I know so many people are struggling right now. Please share and send to friends, family, co-workers etc... The work of Tara Brach has been so healing and helpful for me and my clients. Anxiety is not something to fix, experiencing it doesn't mean you're broken. It's a natural human experience that you can work with and through, with the right tools, support and perspective. #anxiety #anxiety...support #anxietyrelief #selfcompassion #selfcare #compassion #relief #pressure #stressreliever #resources https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1MaZLaJSH8 See more

What if you tried this on this week? In our culture of quick-fixes and ‘solve-and-move-on’ it can feel defiant or strange to choose to take a step back from striving to solve or fix. But it can be so freeing. ... What if you gave it and yourself some time, some space, some grace to be with ‘it’ first? See what happens when you offer yourself or the people around you these words when the urge to jump into active fixing strikes. For many of my clients, and myself, it’s been freedom, room to breathe and a greater capacity to make sound choices that feel good and integral.

I truly believe this. I’ve lived it. I’ve coached countless clients through the process of defining what self-care authentically means to them so it can be sustainable, achievable and beneficial. #selfcare can’t be authentic without self-awareness, self-acceptance and mindfulness in how we talk to ourselves. That’s why I’m giving away my ‘inner critic bootcamp’ 4-week private coaching package as part of a #selflove inspired giveaway along with a handful of awesome Toronto...-based businesses. Self-care is self-love and our inner dialogue plays a big role in both. The winner of the giveaway will be announced this Friday Feb 12, and you can enter up until 11:59pm on Thursday Feb 11. This time around it’s open to residents of the GTA only. Head on over to my post The Ultimate Love Your Self Giveaway to get all the details and rules. The prize pack is chock-full of great experiences and value. If you have a hard time defining self-care, know this: it doesn’t get defined ‘out there’ - it’s internal work and unique to each human. And if you hold the belief that it’s selfish, let’s have a chat and I’ll point you towards the benefits of adopting a self-ish approach that will empower you and give you full permission to care for your needs.

Who else has experienced new degrees of feeling like you’ve lost parts of yourself in pandemic times? My husband and I just had an honest conversation about the ways in which we each feel like we’ve lost some of our independence and parts of ourselves that we were able to nurture with more ease before this restricted way of living. We both know that right now we need to zoom in on the micro-moments of joy, pleasure and fulfillment - and yet even then, some days just feel bl...ue. Some days it’s hard to ignore what we miss or what feels extra hard. Reminder: It’s OK to acknowledge that harder stuff! It’s actually necessary. Not to ruminate, but to acknowledge what’s true. To help those uncomfortable emotions move through you. What lifts me back up?! Those micro-moments that I’m appreciating these days include: Wintery nature walks with my daughter or solo when I can swing it Putting extra care, creativity and effort into our meals when I/we have the energy (and letting go when we don’t!) Reading super fun and funny chapter books at bed time with my 7-year old (we look forward to this and talk about what we think will happen next in between!) Dancing!! Just Dance video parties on YouTube in our living room sometimes make the house shake. Yoga Nidra sleep meditation is my own special thing that I’ve committed to for the many benefits it offers me Listening to podcasts that are enriching, uplifting, and get me curious Lately I’ve been playing with wearing lip colours that make me feel a little bit fancy (while embracing my comfy wardrobe - leggings forever!) and scents that make me feel empowered and alive. What lifts YOU back up?! What do you zoom in on these days to remind yourself what’s good?! Share in the comments! We all need some inspiration.

A great round up of inspiring BIPOC women in the health, wellness and self-care space - an area that has historically not been fully accessible or inclusive. These women are change makers. This piece is a few years old, but so relevant and I've enjoyed discovering all of their work through social follows. If anyone has any additional women to add to this list, comment below and share their social handles! https://www.thegoodtrade.com/featur/black-women-in-wellness

Happy New Year! I don't believe in 'resolutions' - or at least the type of 'fixing' goals we're meant to commit to based on marketing culture (my inbox this morning is filled with 'new year goal setting / be a better you / conquering 'bad habits' etc). But I do believe in connecting to the deeper 'why' around what you're yearning for and hoping to grow in your life. I also believe in forgiveness, gratitude and acceptance (which is different than resignation). ... Arthur Brooks always gets me! This is a great new year's day read. "When I ask people about the resolutions that fail, they often say that what seemed important in the abstract wasn’t really worth the effort. For instance, losing weight didn’t seem worth it if it meant forgoing family meals. In other words, people imagine the benefits of meeting a resolution without the costs of doing so; when the costs actually present themselves, the resolutions often fail the cost-benefit test, leading the resolutions to be abandoned. To solve this problem, we need to ask what we are really trying to improve. In almost every case, it is happiness. Our failed resolutions are often attempts to gain happiness indirectlylike losing weight or exercising to become more attractive and, we hope, happier. Instead, we need resolutions that bring happiness directly, so the benefits outweigh the costs immediately. Let me suggest two direct happiness resolutions for 2021: forgiveness and gratitude." https://www.theatlantic.com//new-years-resolutions/617439/

Mindset. It’s a term that gets tossed around a lot these days and can feel elusive. Here’s a simple perspective: You’re either working with a fixed mindset or a growth mindset. A fixed mindset tells you that things are what they are in a pretty black and white kind of way. Failures and setbacks feel like proof of that reality when they happen. Which makes it understandable why so many people feel ‘stuck’. ... A growth mindset tells you that failure and setbacks are part of the process, it even embraces and expects them to be there. It gives you permission to experiment, try on all kinds of different approaches and perspectives and find your way. It allows for your way to unfold instead of holding you back with the rigid belief that there is only one ‘right’ way. A growth mindset allows for self-compassion because it recognizes the ups and downs, the light and the dark of being human. Working with a coach or any kind of wellness support opens you up to growth. ‘Changing your mindset’ can sound like this scary pressurized thing on paper, but it’s an organic process that happens as a result of getting curious and dropping your guards in a space that’s safe enough to be raw and real. If you’re feeling stuck and want to explore the benefits of being guided into that divinely messy growth place, book an exploration chat with me. I’d love to be your guide. With big thanks to my client Megan for this heartfelt testimonial!

The year that just passed has been eventful, to say the least. On this last day of #2020, let's all take the time to reflect on this year and practice #gratitude. (Jenny Tryansky Personal Development Coaching) https://lifespeak.com/practice-gratitude/

Oh please do yourself the favour of taking a few minutes to consider this question as you look back over the year. Even if you just turn it around in your thoughts as I did last night lying in bed, going back through the stages of the year. Go back through all of your photos from 2020 and your memories from each moment. ... Bring yourself back to exactly one year ago, see that version of you in your minds eye. Then take yourself through the weeks and months of 2020 See: what you faced what you did who you were what you struggled with what you overcame what brought you joy what brought you sorrow what you accomplished who you felt close to who missed who was there for you who you were there for what you cried about, laughed about, worried about who you were and who you were becoming See it all and then go back to that image of yourself exactly one year ago. Consider all of the things the YOU of back then had no idea you were capable of. Celebrate all of it. See what you’re made of. Be inspired by your own story. Take what you need into the new year and begin again.

As great as it is to vision forward, I think 2020 has taught us that we need to be flexible with our expectations and plans. 2020 has felt long and winding for me. I find myself looking back on it in phases and stages. Each phase brought some complex and intense challenges and opportunities. For me it feels like the rollercoaster and uniqueness of 2020 deserves some really good reflection, so we can tuck away each chapter with a real sense of closure in order to be open to ...what the new year has in store. If you feel the same way, here are some questions to spend some time with. Whether you journal them, use them in quiet reflection or bring them into a conversation with people you love, I hope you’ll find some meaning in considering them. I hope you’ve found lots of meaning and learning in the challenges and unique triumphs of 2020. And I hope you’re able to ring in a new year with openness, having closed off this strange year in whatever way feels right for you.

When a trusted friend told me their reaction to my recent post on acceptance was F inner peace! I got curious.... Language is so personal, our experiences are so personal and unique to us, but feelings are universal. What do you call that sense of inner ‘rightness’? That place where you trust yourself instead of question yourself... ?... To my friend, peace means complacency and not challenging themselves. For me, it means letting go of resistance, and trusting what’s true and right for me without judgement or questioning. When I reach that place, I can use my energy that was previously caught up resisting and judging, to focus on what I want, what’s ahead and to motivate myself to face my fears and act in alignment with my values. #personaldevelopment #innerpeace #peacewithin #acceptance #motivation #inspiration #lifecoach #empower #coach #coaching #personalgrowth #growthmindset #permissiontobehuman #uniqueness

This is me actually, trying to take a selfie with arms that are way too short to fully capture the name of the @thisisitactually podcast on my new coziest sweatshirt. Thank you @jenibesworth for the opportunity to share my story on today’s episode! It’s all about the holidays - real human stories that aren’t always rainbows but are always very real. That’s my kind of podcast! When Jeni asked me if I had a story to contribute this holiday, I immediately felt it was important... to share my struggle with postpartum depression during my very first holiday season as a mom. It was such a confusing time. I was surrounded by so much love, support, connection and fun. So much good. And yet. Depression is isolating and robs you of experiencing the joy that’s right in front of you. If you’re experiencing something similar this pandemic holiday season, any version of noticing the good in your life but at the same time noticing feelings of isolation, sadness, fear - please talk about it. Please reach out. Ask for support. There are so many different ways to access support and understanding. Listen to my story and other heartwarming human tales on the holiday episode of @thisisitactually https://anchor.fm/thisisitactually/ Check out the podcast merch on the website - this ridiculously cozy sweatshirt (and other awesome items) could be yours, and you’ll be supporting a hardworking creative in continuing to bring us the gift & magic of heartfelt storytelling.

An important watch. ACCEPTANCE This has been the most powerful and profound inner work I’ve done throughout this tumultuous year. You want to know how to get through anything? Look first at acceptance. ... I wrote about it in my newest piece ‘The Power of Acceptance’ - https://lifespeak.com/the-power-of-acceptance/ I wrote this piece as I was working with a therapist on accepting some challenging life stuff, during the height of my Covid stress, and while helping clients explore the benefits and impact of acceptance in their lives. The writing was therapeutic for me and solidified how important this work is, especially right now given the state of the world. Acceptance feels peaceful even when there can still be sadness or hurt or disapproval of the thing you’ve come to accept. For me I also notice a sense of pride. It feels a bit heroic, like swooping in as your own superhero to save yourself from the suffering of resistance. When I come to a place of acceptance, I know I’ve made a brave agreement within myself, a commitment, to putting my own well-being above the need for something to go ‘my way’ or be some other way than how it actually is. I’ll be sharing more on the power of acceptance over the next while. We need it now, collectively and individually, more than ever. #acceptance #thepowerofacceptance #coaching #coach #lifecoach #innerwork #growth #growthmindset #personaldevelopment #personalgrowthanddevelopment #personalgrowth #growthjourney #healing #acceptingwhatis #inspiration #empowerment #empower #therapy #selfcompassion #selfcompassionjourney #inward #positivity
