Racers, we’ve got another $200 Coast Outdoors certificate for a grand prize tonight, so we’ll be making three grand prize draws! In addition we’ve got our weekly prizes from all our sponsors, including a fall strength coaching series from our newest sponsor Sherry Hunt! Weekly prizes will be on the check-in table labeled with your name, don’t forget to pick it up when you check in. Grand prizes can be collected tonight if you’re there, or we will contact you to arrange pick up if you’re not racing tonight. Grand prize winners will be drawn tonight during the racer meeting!

The sunsets have been pretty spectacular this week, and tonight is looking good for another beauty! We’ve got the racers heading east towards Kits beach with one turn, so the last half of the race will be paddling towards that beautiful sunset. A couple racers had to cancel this morning so the wait listed have been added and we’ve got one spot available. Registration has been reopened until noon, or until it fills, whichever comes first!

We’ve got a couple of Grand Prizes we’ll be awarding after the final race! The draw for these prizes will be a little different, your name will be entered in the draw for every time you’ve raced, meaning as long as you’ve raced even once this season you’re entered and you don’t need to be there tomorrow to win, and if you’ve raced all 13 races you’ll have 13 entries, maximizing your chance of winning! You can only win one prize though, if your name happens to be drawn for b...oth prizes we’ll draw another name for the second prize! Wavechaser 2020 Season Finale is tomorrow night! We’ve got lots of space available with only 23 season pass holders pre-registered. EDIT: THE RACE IS NOW FULL BUT PLEASE REGISTER AND PUT YOUR NAME ON THE WAIT LIST IF YOU MISSED OUT! WE USUALLY HAVE A FEW LAST MINUTE SPOTS OPEN UP. With the sun setting at 7:50 tomorrow, we’ll be running slightly shorter courses to get everyone off the water before dark! Long course is about 6.5 km and short course about 3.5 km. We are very lucky to call the Jericho Sailing Centre home, without the sailing centre these races wouldn't exist. They've been hit with huge challenges this year as they've had to completely change how they operate under Covid, and we're so grateful to Mike, Andrei, and all the staff for all the hard work they do in keeping the centre running smoothly, and keeping everyone safe on the water. The Jericho Rescue Team is out there every day, not just for our races, but all the ...time. They are trained in ocean rescue, they are often the first to respond to ocean emergencies in the bay, and on average theiy respond to over 200 mariners in peril every year. This team is made up entirely of volunteers; men and women who so generously donate their time and expertise to keep all of us safe on the water. In addition to keeping us all safe, they voluneteer to set our race courses for us every week! Before the races they drop the buoys to mark the course, they keep eyes on the paddlers throughout the races, and collect the buoys after the last paddlers are in. We can't thank the Jericho team enough, we are incredibly grateful for everything. Next time you're at the Sailing Centre, drop by the office and drop a donation into the jar to help keep the rescue program going!

Now it's time to thank our volunteers! There's a tonne of work that goes on behind the scenes to make these races happen, even more so this year due to Covid protocols. We increased the series to be a weekly event this year rather than bi-weekly, thanks go to Dave Morris for stepping up to help with that! Dave has helped with everything from setting up Websorer, registrations, timing, and he arrives early every week to start setting up the tables, flags, etc. Thank you Dav...e! Jan Chavarie has been helping every year with timing, registration, set-up, etc. She's a pro with Webscorer! She humbly claims to do very little, but don't be fooled, I don't think I could do these races without her. Thank you Jan, sincerely, your help is so appreciated. Janet Button regularly helps with timing, registration, and set-up. Thank you Janet! Dan Hund helps in the background running errands, picking up supplies, and helps with the sorting, drawing, and labeling of prizes. You'll often find him racing as well, after helping with set-up.
