Expectations are resentments under construction, author Anne Lamott. It boils down to this: Every time we enter into a conversation, meeting or transaction we bring with us a set of expectations. When positive expectations are unmet or negative ones confirmed the interaction falters. . .... . When we come in with zero expectations and are open to discovering what can be created, we have an opportunity to make a deeper connection and co create potentially something we had not even thought of. I would maintain that thanks are the highest form of thought, and that gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder (Sacasas, 2010). Researchers in Positive Psychology have found that gratitude and happiness are always strongly correlated. A possible theory is that gratitude moves people to experience more positive emotions, to thoroughly enjoy the good experiences, better their health, face adversity, and develop and maintain relationships of strength, which in turn makes you ...happier. Three common ways people can express their gratitude are: By being gracious of their past (i.e., think of positive childhood memories) By being gracious for the present (i.e., taking time to be present and enjoy) By being grateful for what’s to come (i.e., hopeful and optimistic of the future) (Giving thanks makes you happier).

Big Emotions I think we all have experience with this, especially this year. Symptoms of big emotions ... In ability to focus Feeling overwhelmed Tired and or fatigue Racing thoughts Negative reactions Seeking self soothing coping mechanisms More sensitive-moods, feelings, others and noise Feeling helpless or hopeless If you identify with 3 or more, you likely are in overwhelm. The quality of your thoughts also is an excellent thermometer. If the quality of your life is being affected by these symptoms, please seek support. If you can identify with a few and know that it's just temporary, below there are some quick steps to take that can improve your mental health. The power of a sympathetic ear and a good laugh can also do wonders. Its an unprecedented time for all of us alive, there are compounding situations that facing any one independently can be overwhelming. Self compassion is key to help find your path to feeling healthy and stable. Sending love and I am here if you need a path to better emotional health.

Communication - listening You cannot truly listen to anyone and do anything else at the same time. - M. Scott Peck Here are the most common listening mistakes:... Daydreaming or thinking of something else (even something as simple as your list of groceries) while another person is speaking; Thinking of what to say next; Judging what the other person is saying; Listening with a specific goal/outcome in mind. But active listening is so much more than not talking. It is an art that requires a genuine interest in the other person, a curiosity rather than an anticipative mind. Active listening involves: Nonverbal involvement (show your attention) Paying attention to your vis-à-vis, not your own thoughts No judgment Tolerating silence
