Sweet sweet deals.... If you know me well, you know I love a deal and I put in the extra effort to buy vintage or clearance pieces. It’s a great way to get really quality items at Ikea prices. I hear a lot from my friends that they don’t like to dig through piles of lame items to find the diamond. My advice for you would be: pick a couple stores and check regularly. Make friends with the people who work there. Treat it like your own fabulous treasure hunt.... I just stopped by Fontile in Vancouver to return some samples and of course I took a spin around their clearance section. For reference, I got the fabulous gray Porcelanossa tiles for my fireplace there for $1.88 square foot! That made my total tile cost around $45 with tons of extra! So I thought I’d share some gems I saw today... in case you’re in the market... it doesn’t hurt to look

My own house has been my life-sized doll house project and I've really been able to cut my construction teeth on doing the demo, managing the trades and obsessively hunting on craigslist to find deals on materials. From the flooring which was $2/sq ft for engineered walnut, to the marble mosaic in the bathroom, which was discontinued so we got it at $5/sq ft to the bathroom vanity which I was able to barter some design time to have a fabulous local cabinet maker re-construct the insides. This has been an absolute labour of love and I wouldn't take back a second...even those spent building all of those Ikea kitchen cabinets myself!

This super masculine Whistler Condo remodel was a dream to work on and turned out beautifully. The space wasn't the biggest but we managed to make the most of every inch without feeling crowded. Beautiful black and white prints from local artist Mason Mashon helped bring the stoke for big powder days on the mountain.
