There’s a good reason why your therapist encourages you to get outside. Being in nature is good for your mental health! Taking a walk outside or doing your workout outdoors helps lower cortisol and adrenaline (your stress hormones) within 15 minutes of being outside. Along with all the other benefits of Vitamin D exposure, better sleep and automatically reducing time spent sedentary, being in nature also improved concentration and rumination! Studies have shown that when peop...le are depressed or under serious levels of stress the brain short circuits in a way. We get caught in a constant loop of negative thoughts that help maintain that low mood. As it turns out, being in nature lowers activity in the prefrontal cortex, the part of the brain active in rumination #yourbrainonnature #ecotherapy #getoutsideandexplore #depression

But it is just as (or perhaps even more) important to remember the other side of a diagnosis. ... To celebrate all of the extraordinary abilities and beautiful moments that happen because nature decided to add an extra chromosome. To celebrate different abilities and cherish differences. To celebrate everything that makes you, you. Not in spite of a diagnosis but BECAUSE of it. Emotions help us process our experiences, protect us, and prepare us for what is to come. Emotions, give our life meaning
