This article has a great education point of view but I can see also how it could be taken wrongly. This is not about hockey in particular; the same applies to any sport. The problem is the wrongly and uneducated approach that more is better. I hold a Physical Education degree and Ive never learned to start specializing at such an early age. Yet Im not an expert in ALL sports, Im an expert in physical development, and THATS the key point here. Physical Development! ... The more variety of activities (sports if you wish) a kid does, the better motor skills will develop for the future. Have you ever run into someone and said, man, this kid (teen, youth, adult) can play well any sports. He/She is amazing!. Well, the reason why is because their movement history must be filled with lots of different movement/skills experiences. Here are a few of my recommendations of activities (I dont want to call them sports so we leave the competitiveness nature out) that a child could/should experience from an early stage of their life. Gymnastics Great way to develop body awareness and space/body control. Amazing way to develop strength using your own body weight along the space and with toys (ropes, jump boards, bars, etc..) Swimming Life skill, period. Basketball 360 degree development of ALL senses. Plus great for reaction, speed, vertical power and anaerobic capacity. Great upper body activity. Soccer - 360 degree development of ALL senses. Plus great for reaction, speed, vertical power and aerobic capacity. Great lower body activity. Hockey - 360 degree development of ALL senses on an non conventional surface (almost never we need to walk or run over the ice). Plus great for reaction, speed, eye/hand coordination and anaerobic and anaerobic capacity. These are just a handful of activities and the benefits as a movement stand point (in my opinion). Regarding the competitive nature of sports we can say that the kid will develop work ethics, appreciate what hard work means, never quit, etc. These, in my opinion, is ALL BS! They could learn that, but also they can learn that at home, at school, in the playground! Is all about the adults being involved with them. Having a mentor, someone to look up to and most important, learn to value what they have, what they do and have PASSION & FUN! But this is jut my opinion. Yours truly,

I believe in short term goals. I believe in challenging yourself to commit to something for 30/60/90 days. I believe that commitment is do-able in our brains, we can justify and we can focus. I do not believe that once that goal is attained, you are done. You do not commit to healthy living for 60 days and then return to your old habits. You set a new goal. A new commitment and you build upon your last challenge. That is how you grow and better yourself. Challenge yourself. Just don't go back once you're done.
