Styling tip! This may be super obvious but one of the easiest ways to coordinate colours in a room is to pull colour from the main artwork. We have reoccurring blues in the space but more specifically, the aqua colour from the artwork coordinates with the throw blanket on the back of the couch and the glass decor piece sitting on the coffee table.... Coffee maker suggestions please! We used the @brevillecanada Grind Control for the longest time. Loved it because it ground the beans on its own which was SUPER convenient but it decided it didnt want to be a part of our lives anymore and quit on us... so sad. Now were using a good old drip that was hanging around in the cupboard. It gets the job done but its time for a new machine!... Heres the 411 on styling kitchen shelves with glass doors! 1. Choose wisely which items you actually store here! Most of us have something randomly mismatched- for me, its coffee mugs. So be aware that these wont show as nicely and dont put them on display. 2. Keep in mind how it looks when the doors are closed. This cabinet provides us 12 panes so youll notice how glasses and french fry holders (haha I know, so random) are separated in the middle to show them of...f better from the outside. 3. Create balance using some glass and some colour. When the eye is drawn through a space, it creates visual appeal so youll notice how the darker items are balanced out on each shelf. 4. Circling back to point 1, if you do need to store random or smaller cluttered looking items, choose a basket or decorative bin to keep them hidden in. 5. Okay so I am a country girl (technically grew up in the woods) but I would NOT call myself an outdoors person! I feel like people love to say they love being outside... laying in fields of wild flowers and swimming in creeks because theyre supposed to appreciate nature but my truth is, I cant stand bugs (not to mention ticks, hello) and as soon as my skin sees grass, its usually itchy to the max. Hot and bothered is the next phase... you get it Yesterday it was s...ooo hot here in Ottawa so I actually did get outside almost all day and I really did enjoy myself! Hows the view from your windows these days? I want to share an exciting upgrade we made in our house recently because visually, its made such a difference for me! We replaced all of our outdated thin aluminum blinds with these roller shades from @bouclair. Scroll photos for before and after!... Heres why I LOVE them: They are much more modern and provide different privacy depending on what youre looking for. You can roll them so there are sheer slats which provide more natural light or you can close them up so you have privacy. They come in a wide variety of widths so they will fit (or close enough) almost any window! Its a dirty job but someone has to do it! Lets face it... we spend a lot of time in our laundry rooms! We dont think to decorate this space because its purely functional but that being said, I bet you bring your coffee or wine in once in a while to fold your clothes Here are a few ways to spice it up a little and so the laundry chore wont seem so daunting-... Create an accent wall using paint or wallpaper. People often think small spaces should be light and plain so they dont look smaller than they already are but the truth is that these rooms give you an option to get a little wild without taking a huge risk! Think about how many wallpapered or dark powder rooms you see. This will make the room unique and give you something to focus on while youre flipping that millionth load over to the dryer! Hang artwork. This will create an appealing focal point and add some colour! Even if your laundry "room" is a closet, find a small space above the machines or on a side wall. Add a floor mat. Make sure it is cozy and comfortable- your feet will thank you when youre Marie Kondo-ing your wardrobe! The mat should colour coordinate with the art. Add decoration. I love books but I dont read! Books are great to use for decor. Most of us already have some and never really think of them as decorative items. Here are some clever ways you can display books throughout your house! Display them horizontally, stacked on top of one another. Add a small plant, book weight or other decor piece to the top. ... Go vertical and use a nice book end or anything with a bit of weight to keep them upright! You could also use smaller books stacked horizontally to keep the others up. Colour coordinate the spines for high visual interest. Heck, even coordinate colours of your choice so they go with your decor! If youre not using them much or theyre ugly or old and just want to use them for decorating, consider turning the spines inward to create a more cohesive and natural look.
