COVID-19 AWHONN (the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nurses) DOULAS ARE NOT VISITORS.... THEY ARE ESSENTIAL SUPPORT PEOPLE AND MEMBERS OF THE HEALTHCARE TEAM. AWHONN (the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nurses) released the following statement on Wednesday: AWHONNs Position on Doulas with Patients During COVID-19 AWHONN recognizes that doula services contribute to the womans preparation for and support during childbirth and opposes hospital policies that restrict the presence of a doula during a womans active labor. Doulas are not visitors and should not be blocked from caring for patients in the antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum period. Most doulas have been contracted by patients weeks to months ahead of time and have established provider relationships. They are recognized by AWHONN and ACOG as essential personnel and part of the maternity care team, said AWHONN member Nancy Travis, MS, BSN, RN, BC, CPN, CBC, Florida Section Chair. AWHONN supports doulas as partners in care and acknowledges their ability to provide physical, emotional, and partner support to women. AWHONN opposes hospital policies that restrict the presence of a doula in the inpatient setting during an infectious disease outbreak.

STAY WELL HYDRATED Of course this is important at any stage of your life, so let's just run through a fewreminders here (especially for my breastfeeding friends). First things first, there is no evidence that you need to increase your water intake and while breastfeeding. ... HOWEVER! Should you become dehydrated, it can have an effect on milk supply and production. Dehydration can also lead to headaches, dizziness, nausea, muscle cramping, tiredness and fatigue, moodiness, constipation... sounds like the best thing to do is to just drink that water, right? DOULA TIP: Grab yourself an extra large cup with a straw or sports bottle and commit to filling it up a few times a day. and hey, support team people... make sure the new parent in your life is drinking! Water is not the only option for hydration, but it is the best! Because everyone is different, I'm not going to tell you to drink 8 glasses per day. Instead, keep an eye on the colour of your urine. Super light yellow to clear is a-ok. Don't wait until you're thirsty, you are already dehydrated at that point. Cool? What's your best tip for staying well hydrated? #hydration #drink #postnatal #breastfeeding #stayhydrated #baby #birth #doulasupport #norfolkcounty #brantfordontario #hamilton #oxfordcounty #ldnont #youareworthit

NOURISH YOUR BODY In order to recover & replenish, birthing parents must first allow themselves TIME to honour their body & the miracle of creating life. During this the birthing parent should be fed healing soups; replenishing meals and snacks; and calming and lactation-boosting teas, all formulated to support the unique needs of the parent @motherbees... The idea is to support & restore the body with warming foods & replenish nutrients lost through pregnancy & childbirth. On average it can take 1-2 years for a birthing persons body to fully recover from pregnancy, making those first 40 days of restoration vital.
