Ties of kinship weave us together in a web of sacred responsibilities, calling us to listen to the Earth and question those who seek to exploit her living body as mere natural resources, regardless of the consequences to the wider community of life. Throughout this session, we invite you to listen with open hearts to what may be new ways of understanding treaties and the ties of kinship they entail. What implications do these insights have on how we may inhabit this land to...gether in peace and justice? Pre-order a copy of Listening to Indigenous Voices today at ltiv.ca (also available in French) Each language embodies a unique way of perceiving, conceiving, and interacting with the world that may enable distinct possibilities. Each time a language is lost, we lose a way of being human. Yet, UNESCO considers 2/3 of all Indigenous languages in Canada to be severely or critically endangered. The number of Indigenous persons speaking their language as a mother tongue has falle...n from 26% in 1996 to about 15% today. In recent years, though, there has been an increase in younger people learning their Indigenous tongue, bringing hope that some languages will begin to grow again. Session 4 - Languages of the Land - explores a variety of writings and stories that provide insights into Indigenous worldviews where process, animacy, and relationality lie at the core. How might this lead to an ethic of restraint and respect for all life rather than the tendency to use and exploit? #listeningtoindigenousvoices #Indigenousvoices #IndigenousLanguages #languagerevitalization #indigenousworldviews #indigenousvoicesmatter #indigenousknowledge KAIROS: Canadian Ecumenical Justice Initiatives
