Happy Tu B'Shvat! These sweet cards were made by the grade 4 students at @vttschool to celebrate the Jewish new year for trees. They'll be included in the food bank orders this week. Thank you!

We now have a van! Thanks to the generosity of community partner, RBC , the first JFS food security van is hitting our local streets. We are thrilled! The new van has been fully outfitted with a lift and shelving that can be easily changed to adapt to different programs, currently serving 300 clients on average every week. We can now streamline our processes and get food to our clients faster and more efficiently. Resources that were previously spent on regular U-Haul re...ntals multiple times a week can now go directly towards better serving the people who rely on us. On November 12th we start our second round of support group sessions in collaboration with @shorelinecounselling! These group counselling sessions are rooted in mindfulness and grounding techniques to assist our clients who are in need of some extra support during this time. It’s been a busy week when it comes to food! We are so incredibly grateful for @stongsmarket’s contribution to our Breakfast Club this week. They helped to support 40 families across Greater Vancouver with healthy and nutritious food items! Todah Tabah!

From the JFS family, we hope that you have a safe and wonderful Canada day. Despite this generally being a day to celebrate our beautiful country, we wanted to acknowledge the traumatic and hurtful history that has allowed for us to live so freely. The times are shifting, and today and each day moving forward is an opportunity both to educate ourselves as well actively tackle the systemic racism that happens in our very own backyard.

JFS is excited to announce that we have received a $25,000 COVID-19 Community Response Grant. A very special THANK YOU to the Vancouver Foundation, Vancity Credit Union, United Way Lower Mainland, and the City of Vancouver for their grant. It will help JFS clients access support from us for food, housing advocacy and other basic necessities.

JFS wants to extend a huge thank you to @wholefoodsbc for stepping up to take care of our community with a generous Emergency Care donation. Their support provides healthy, nutritious foods to over 1000 clients. #todahrabah

With confusion between "social distancing" and what it should actually be, which is "physical distancing" - seniors are feeling more isolated than ever. For those who are looking for connection, JFS provides friendly phone visits via our Community Crisis Line: 604-558-5719. . For those who are looking for more robust and consistent support, we are pleased to announce that Lily Shalev is offering direct virtual couns...elling to seniors in need. Email Lily at [email protected] or call 604-754-6031 to inquire about these sessions. . While counselling can be a big step for those who have never tried a session, problems helped by counselling include difficulties in coping with daily life; the impact of trauma, medical illness, or loss, like the death of a loved one; and specific mental disorders, like depression or anxiety.
