When Angela first reached out to our Options Navigator about wanting to do something for the community regarding food security and school-age children, we brainstormed and came up with this idea. We knew that it was needed but could have never predicted that we would have such an overwhelming response from the community. From monetary donations, to offering to help make deliveries and package the lunches, our community has really shown that in times of adversity we can be pow...erful and make an impact if we work together. We cannot thank Angela at The Breakfast Pig enough for her commitment to bettering our community and for her passion for feeding people. As well, thank you so much to the staff from our office who spend time packing and delivering the lunches every week, as well as volunteers from The Breakfast Pig. Stay home. Stay healthy. Stay safe.
We got a small load of stuff from Harvest Algoma today, and we’re going to be getting more tomorrow! We’re open until 4pm today, so please come and get what you... need, please take what you need, although we will be limiting to one bag of potatoes so we can get them out to everyone that could use them. See more
Thank you to the Algoma Community Foundation for choosing us to be one of the recipients of this fundraiser. Please consider donating!
We’re very happy to be part of the Feed The Kids program in partnership with The Breakfast Pig. Take a look at the clip from CTV Northern Ontario to see Taylar from John Howard and Angela from The Breakfast Pig deliver lunches to youth in our community!
Making sure the kiddos have full bellies! We’re so excited to be working with Angela and The Breakfast Pig on this initiative. So proud to be part of a community that shows up for each other
It’s critical Ontarians stay home right now to combat the spread of COVID-19. It’s critical you and your family have the tools you need to stay healthy. If you need to talk, here’s some resources.
We're still answering phones and providing services in a different way, as best we can! Stay home. Stay safe. Stay healthy.
For those doing outreach this is a good idea
We’ve been given a ton of fresh produce from Harvest Algoma! Everything that they donated to us today is here at the store and available for everyone to come an...d take for free! We sat down with Meagan the Birthday Girl for today's #StaffSpotlight interview! Q: How long have you worked at John Howard and what is your role here? A: I’ve been working at John Howard for almost 4 years. I’m a Bail Supervision Case Manager, a Bail Court Worker, I work in the Direct Accountability Program and I go to the Walk-in Counselling service once a month.... Q: What is your favourite thing about your job? A: My favourite thing about my job is the people I work with. They’re like my second family; I see them more than anyone else. Also, I like helping people. Q: If there was one thing you’d want the community to know about John Howard, what would it be? A: That we all are cross-trained in different programs, so we are all very well-versed in John Howard programming and can help whoever walks in the door. Q: What is your favourite activity to do outside of work? A: I like to walk my dog, hang out with my nieces and the #1 thing I like to do is go grocery shopping. Q: What is your favourite movie/tv show to watch? A: I don’t have a favourite TV show or movie, but I really like the true crime documentaries on Netflix. Q: What would you say is one of your talents? A: I would say I’m a good cook. I like to be adventurous with recipes. Q: If you could pick one thing to eat for the rest of your life, what would it be? A: I can’t live without coffee, even though I know It’s not food, but I’d say anything to do with the eggs benedict from The Breakfast Pig. Q: What’s one thing you couldn’t live without? A: Kora, my dog. She’s my baby. Q: If Hollywood was making a movie about your life, who would you want cast as you? A: Uhm, I would say Anna Kendrick because she’s funny and I like to think I’m funny. And she’s sassy and I think I’m sassy. Q: If you could learn to do one thing, what would it be? A: I need to learn how to wink.
**IMPORTANT** Please see below regarding changes to the NRC Medical Walk-in Clinic.

Q: If there was one thing you’d want the community to know about John Howard, what would it be? A: That we do record suspensions! And that if you need something that we can’t directly help you with, we will be sure to find someone to help you. Q: What is your favourite activity to do outside of work? A: I like to crochet and hang out with my dog. Q: What is your favourite movie/tv show to watch? A: My favourite TV show is The Office, and my favourite movie is probably The Bird Cage.
