Why do men hold onto children/dogs so awkwardly?

These dogs cracked me up. Do you see that tongue?! This was such a cold session, we had to keep throwing coats on to warm up, even though the day before was warm and beautiful! I am so excited to get back outside this spring/summer and get photographing all of the families. It has been way too long!

I've been a bit quiet for awhile, just in the last leg of getting my kids into the house I've been building, plus the new studio. Will be back up and running soon. Thought I would share a letter my son wrote to me. He has such a sweet soul and tells me all the time how much he loves me and how lucky he is to have me as his mom. I hope all you parents out there choose to see yourself through your children's eyes, it is such an eye opener to hear how the innocent souls see yo...u. This is what his letter says, with corrected spelling: Thankyou for making me a house to live in and when I'm sad you cheer me up. You are the best mom in the world. This was the first session done at my property, right before Christmas. Gotta say, I love the logs behind them. Actually, I love them so much, I think I am going to offer a quick mini session with them in a few weeks. And just to get back into the swing of things, I am going to be gifting one of these sessions. The fastest a lesson has ever been taught! I was the kid that rescued animals and nursed them back to life, even when I was told it wasn't worth the effort. I was the kid that made fundraisers in my school to raise thousands of dollars to give to SCAW. I was the person that raised money for orphanages in Ecuador and went to help buy food and fix them up. I was the person that spent three weeks in Africa instead of a honeymoon to work in an orphanage. Im the person that buys t...he order behind me in the tim Hortons drivethru. Im the person that has jumped out many times to help a little old lady shovel off her car. Im the person that has given countless photography sessions to people that can't afford one, that does yearly fundraisers with photo sessions to give to local charities. Im the person that loves to give back, that finds joy in knowing I can do something nice for another. I have been busy these past couple years just trying to stay afloat. Trying to push myself to get out of bed. Trying to find calm and balance for my kids. I have not been able to open the world of good deeds and volunteering as much as I would like to to my kids. So I decided it was time to do what I've always wanted to do with my kids....let them see how great it is to give back. I told them to scrounge around for their loose change and whatever they felt they could donate for a family in need of a Christmas dinner. I matched what they found, and we went down to @holtonflowers to give back. On the way there I was explaining that if you held joy and love for others, and gave openly what you could - and explained that money did not have to be involved - then the universe would find ways to give back. That if your energy is for good, good will come back. We get down there, and as im longingly looking at the beautiful flowers and decorations (I absolutely LOVE flowers) but knowing I can't afford to spend anything just on pretty flowers, we are told we've won a $75 gift card for donating. I honestly dont think I have ever been able to teach a lesson that quickly in my life. We have decided to come up with one good deed as a family to do each month. Kind of excited. #giveback See more

I took their wedding photos on the bridge, and now I get to update their family photos here. How special is that!? I am always grateful for the families that have me document their special moments all throughout their life. It allows me to feel like I have a little piece of that joy!
