The Soldiers of Song are coming home to Toronto! On November 11th, the Soldiers of Song will be performing at Hugh's Room, the site of their first show in 2013. Since then, the Soilders have hit the road to over 30 locations in Ontario, Manitoba and Quebec. Led by musical director Dr. Jason Wilson, and storyteller Lorne Brown, the show recreates the songs and sketches of The Dumbells, the legendary Canadian concert party of the first world war. Joining them are actors Andrew ...Knowlton and Jim Armstrong, and musicians Marcus Ali and Patrice Barbanchon for an evening of songs, stories and occasional cross-dressing. Presented by Hugh's Room and The Vimy Foundation, the performance will start at 8:30PM on November 11th. Part of the proceeds will go to The Vimy Foundation, dedicated to preserving and promoting Canada’s First World War legacy as symbolized with the victory at Vimy Ridge in April 1917. Fellow actors! Many of you have probably heard me talk about how incredible I have found the courses taught by Matthew Harrison at The Actor's Foundry. Since working with him, I have been able to bring much more process and clarity to my work, and have a far more thorough understanding of the craft. I have always, and will always, recommend Matthew to any actor looking to bring more specificity and more life to their acting. Well, Matthew is kicking things up a notch, la...unching an Online Intensive and Online Campus for actors, whether they want to learn his methods for the first time or if they've studied with him before and want his teachings at their fingertips whenever they need him. The centrepiece of the Online Foundry is going to be a series of videos totaling around twelve hours of learning. These have been done in incredibly high quality, combining green screened footage of Matthew teaching to the camera that has been combined with incredibly helpful animation to visualize his teachings. These scenes have been interspliced with footage of him teaching an actual class for a different, more candid, method of teaching for Matthew. Thanks to participating in an earlier crowdfunding campaign, I've gotten a sneak peak at these videos and they are absolutely of the high quality that I've come to expect from the Foundry. While these videos are now complete (and amazing), the Foundry is now running a crowdfunding campaign in order to finish the extended online campus, which by my understanding will include webinars, worksheets, discussion forums for actors, and more. I would never ask my fellow actors to donate so much in the name of altruism alone. I know none of us have enough funds to be so kind!
