What inspires? Next time you're working on a role, spend some time looking at paintings( online will do!) or listening to instrumental music or reading poetry. Let your imagination soak up the images that come to you and see how this effects your work.... #expression #nonlinear #inspiration #creative #imagination #exploration #process #actingtips
Thoughts. Interior focus. So important when you’re acting. Let us see you think. #actingtips #actor #actorsofinstagram #bepresent #inthemoment #innerlife #objectofattention #showup #actorsofinstagram
Anthony Hopkins in The Father. This performance! Watch and learn. I always strive to inhabit a character and this is a masterclass in that. #alwayslearning #acting #professionalactor #actingclass #masterclass #brilliance #truth #inhabit #be #authenticity
On camera acting is far more about the response than the words. Don’t rush. And trust that if you focus on what is happening to you in the moment that you will not only be accurate, you will be COMPELLING! #bereal #beyou #trustyourself #beorigional #takeaction #actingtips #classes #actingclass #actorsofinstagram #bepresent #moments #beinthemoment #takeclass #acting #actor #onlineclasses
MINDSET. I want to give a big shoutout to the actors in my classes. What I witness in you is your willingness to learn and to implement what you’re learning! ... GROWTH mindset over fixed mindset is so important and you are proving that! Each week you come back having worked on your next steps and you experience big progress! CONFIDENCE comes from taking formative feedback, implementing and knowing you have made a shift into a new way that works. When you can say to yourself, hmmm, I didn’t nail it this time. There is learning here- Cool! Rather than, I made another mistake, this is too hard, not only does it transform your acting it transforms your LIFE! Congrats to @brittany_clough @gregorydavidwaters @belamusicl @albeaton @aliciabarban to name a few! I am so thrilled to watch your growth each week. You inspire! #mindset #growthmindset #confidence #yesyoucan #learning #curiosity #actorsofinstagram #beyourbest #actingclass #onlineclass
Next time you audition, be bold. Whatever the role is, no matter the size of the part, dare yourself to shake things up. Challenge yourself. Use this time to get back into class and work on areas that you need to strengthen. I’d say in my 26 plus years of teaching that most actors that come to me have trouble emotionally connecting with material. And after learning some simple adjustments to their approach they drop in. If you’re interested in auditing a Thursday night class, the new session starts this Thursday. DM to book a spot.... #acting #actingclass #challengeyourself #raisethebar #beproactive #useyourtimewisely #newawareness #workout #actorsofinstagram
The weird sisters. From quite a few years ago now! I did all this work to create my character and the brilliant #clarecouter inhabited. She blew me right off the screen in our scenes together. So present and grounded. She found the character from with and I learned a lot from her that day. Be careful of character work. After that experience I do interior adjustments to bring forth who is most like the character rather than creating from the outside in. ... I can totally see that in this photo. I’m sneering away and Clare is sitting authentically IN character. Thanks for posting this memory Eric Weinthal @eric_weinthal. It was a great production! @a_taste_of_shakespeare #allowing #justbe #workfromwithin #presence #trust #beseen #learn #alwayslearning
Throwback Thursday. Being on set with lots of people. Hugging. Missing that a lot. Missing teaching in person. I have to remind myself that we are on our way back. It will take time but we’ll get there. I also chose this picture because I often talk about concentration when I teach. In this picture, I’m focusing on the physical aspect of having Huntington’s disease. It affects the motor skills and so I researched to find out the specifics. Just before the director called a...ction, I would have to get the physicality including speech going while final touches were happening. You have to strengthen your ability to concentrate while others are doing the work they need to do so that when action is called you are in character. I teach this in both my method and on camera classes. New session begins the first week of February. DM if you have questions or you want to audit a Thursday night. #tbt #onset #character #focus #concentration #actingtips #actorsofinstagram #actor #methodactor #onlineclasses #themethod #oncameratechnique
The release of habitual tension is the single most important tool an actor can cultivate. We need to train our bodies to relax on command. When we focus on relaxation in the moment as we work, any issues around concentration and being emotionally available disappear. It takes practice and commitment. This is the bedrock of the method technique. The next session starts the first week of February. DM if you have any questions.... #methodacting #relaxation #momenttomoment #inthemoment #impulse #contemporaryacting #focus #concentration #actor #actorsofinstagram
