I love dim sum so very much. I had a blast last chilly Saturday hanging on the patio eating steaming hot bites @dynastychineserestaurant and I can’t wait to return. Their octopus was both crispy and tender. This is my friend Janet @rainbowplate and this is her post "This is made from garbage.OK, not really garbage, but the simple and delicious pesto on this pasta was made from something that most people throw out!Did you know that nearly 60% of food produced in Canada is lost and wasted annually? That’s a huge problem with a complex solution. Each one of us can be part of that solution by finding ways to waste less food at home. Today is International Day of Awareness of F...ood Loss and Waste. A perfect day to make something from nothing and be part of the change that this world needs. Start by talking about food waste with your family and see what simple changes you can make. Pesto is one of those awesome recipes that’s so versatile and delicious and can be made from whatever you have on hand. It’s a great way to minimize waste and use up sad greens and leftover veggies. I’ve made it with everything from basil to kale, beet greens, leftover broccoli, parsley stems and more. You can use pine nuts, almonds or walnuts, and I’ve discovered that sunflower seeds work out just as well! You can even use nut butter or leave out the nuts/seeds altogether. This pesto was made with carrot tops from my garden. We shared it in the food literacy resources we created for @secondharvestca this summer!Use this simple recipe as a guide and create your own version using what you have on hand.Carrot Top Pesto RecipeIn a blender or food processor, combine: greens from one bunch of carrots, or a combo of any other leafy herbs, greens or veggies you’ve got - about 2 cups in total 1-2 cloves of garlic (depending on how garlicky you want it!) 1/3 cup grated parmesan or other hard cheese - this is a great way to use up that bit of hard, forgotten cheese in the back of the fridge! the juice of a lemon 1/3 cup of nuts, seeds or nut butter of your choice 1/2 teaspoon of salt 1/2 cup of olive oil Blend it all up and adjust with oil or a bit of water if it needs. Get your kids to taste as you go and decide when it’s just right! Toss it with hot pasta for an easy and yummy meal! What else would you do with it? Cheers for wasting less food!

This weekend was a weekend to get stuff done in the house. I harvested all our green tomatoes and my neighbour gave me some, I made Green Tomato Garlic Jam and Pickled Calabrese Tomatoes. I then harvested another neighbours hot as hell peppers and made hot sauce. I then made a Brisket slathered in Gojuchang and portioned it off and made 2 mocha chip breakfast cakes with yogurt and olive oil. All and all I de stressed, listened to classical music and had a chill weekend. Just ...2 pick ups for @seedsofhopefoundationto . . . . . . . . #joannasable #chefathome #downtime #stressbuster #cookingathome #homecooking #chillax #sundays #letscook #canning #preserving #usingupleftovers #endfoodwaste #cleanouthefridge #pickling #cakes #coffeecake #brisket #koreanfood #letseat #mulitculturalcook @ Toronto, Ontario See more
