Muscle Mondays is back again... Today's focus is on the LONGISSIMUS THORACIS muscle This muscle is important to the balance of one's posture. Unilaterally this muscle flexes the spine laterally/sideways. And bilaterally (both sides engaged) it extends the spine backwards. ... For those of you whom I've instructed to roll the muscles on either side of their spine.....this is one of the muscles you are rolling. It can be a bit uncomfortable at first but with time you will come to love rolling this muscle .

Muscle Mondays: Today's muscle is the RECTUS ABDOMINIS Muscle. One of the core abdominal muscles....the outer layer surrounded by connective tissue. It's primary function is to flex the trunk anteriorly/forward, as well as play an important role in forced breathing, and labor. ... Trigger points in this muscle can result in a band of pain across the mid-back and low back (see photo with green and brown bands across the back). The trigger points are located at the top and bottom for the Rectus Abdominis muscle. Regular stretching and massage helps to regulate and manage their development. Strengthening the Rectus Abdominis muscle helps to reveal your inner "six pack". Which we all have.......we're just hiding it at varying degrees. Lol References: J Smolders, Trigger Points 1 chart.

A closer look at the STERNOCLEIDOMASTOID Muscle covered in today's Flexible Fridays video. Balance in your neck = balance in your posture. Stretch this muscle daily. You'll be glad you did.

Flexible Fridays: Today's focus is on the STERNOCLEIDOMASTOID (SCM) Muscle. This muscle flexes your head forward, and rotates the head to the opposite side. ... This muscle is strained by looking down at your phones/ipads for long periods, commonly injured in whiplash accidents, and holds tension as a result of stress and clenching of your teeth. This muscle should be stretched regularly to control the amount of tension that builds in the neck. Posture is everything!!!!
