Heidi had her baby today! Little female!
Welcome to the herd MacGruber (Mac) and Heidi! Both are settling in well.
After our usual farm calls for shearing we managed to shear 2 out of the 5 new rescue llamas. The last 3 realized the gate was left open for 2 seconds and took off into the pasture. Each one had over 30lbs of matted fleece. Time to get some weight on them. We sheared our main herd (45 alpacas/llamas) on May 2nd but left these girls till later so they didn't get too much of a shock from the cold.
Jet and Duke are at Fallowfield Tree Farm this weekend and next weekend. We'll be in the Richmond Christmas parade tonight at 5:30pm with Larry, Oscar and Lenny.
Rescued 6 donkeys and 5 llamas today.
We're doing a Christmas llama walk giveaway again! To enter you just have to 'like' this page, and comment or tag someone. The winner will be announced on December 23. Here are a few reviews from the llama walks, we've had roughly 250-300 groups do the 1km walk over the last 2 years!
In response to the Covid-19 and our 2020 shearing season, we'll be making a few changes to ensure the safety of everyone involved. We ask that you keep helpers to a minimum (just someone to collect the fleece, give any shots, etc), consider paying with E-transfer (we still accept cash though), and practice physical distancing. We are still on schedule. In regards to the llama walks, we've cancelled/postponed them till further notice. Stay safe!
We'll be at Pondview farm's open house with the llamas again this year doing llama walks!
Ill be starting the booking process for shearing 2020 in the very near future. If you require shearing (alpacas and llamas) please get in touch. We'll be at the Richmond fair with the animals from Thursday (sept 19) till Sunday(sept 22) in the agricultural barn. We'll also be in the demolition derby on Thursday at 7pm. The little bottle baby llama has been taken in by one of the female alpacas and she has started to produce milk for her. I think we've settled on the name KitKat but are still open for suggestions.
We took in this little female cria a few days ago. Her mother rejected her at a farm not far from here. We've been bottle feeding her in the house for the last couple of days because she was so weak. She met the females yesterday and hit it off with them, she'll move in with them later this week or next week once she gets stronger. We need a name for her. (The pictures are from the day we got her till today)

And thats a wrap! Our 2018 shearing season is done (as far as i know)! With a grand total of 224 alpacas, 49 llamas, and 6 sheep. It worked out well shearing after school, weekends and being dependent on my family for driving us to the farms untill I got my license. Thanks to everyone who made it possible!
Now that shearing is coming to a close we had a chance to do some fencing. The last 3 days we added a few acres worth of pasture. Happy herd.
