There is more to the way your body accesses and uses body fat as fuel than the outdated theory of calories in, calories out. If you have been wondering about... the nine common puzzle pieces that can contribute to the growing and shrinking of your body, you might like to check out this article I wrote over at body+soul. (Please excuse the images chosen for the article. I have no say in this, but it’s important that you know that I have never weighed a single client, despite weight loss being something I have supported people with for 20+ years.) https://www.bodyandsoul.com.au//0b773885a11fce4a10829cf5b1

FOOD CHOICES FOR REVERSING digestive dysfunction is important for healing. Here are some tips to help with choices: choose as much organic food as you can afford eat all the vegetables that you want; except corn (it’s not a veggie)... high quality protein at every breakfast and lunch nuts and seeds cold pressed olive oil and coconut oil fresh or frozen fruit be well hydrated; water, herbal teas Step back from foods that are sabotaging your healing. Specifically, this includes all processed sugars and sweeteners, any type of flour, all dairy foods, all foods containing gluten, alcohol, and processed foods from boxes, bags, cans, and cartons (whole food choices e.g. frozen fruit, frozen veggies/fish, canned beans with no additives are good exceptions). Remember: a moderate reduction vs. elimination may prevent you from making solid progress. I highly recommend this recipe book for helping you navigate the most common food choices derailing your success. [The Wahls Protocol Cooking for Life] I invite you to book a Discovery Call if you’d like to talk more about solving your digestive distress. . . . #ittakesguts #ittakesgutstobehealthy #ittakesgutstobehappy #functionalmedicine #digestivedistress #digestivehealth #guthealing #digestivewellness #foodsensitivities #inflammation #guthealing #ibsrelief #constipation #bloating #gassy #brainfog #loveyourguts #yychealthcoach #discoverycall #digestiverelief #springsalad #healingfoods

DIGESTIVE HEALTH needs many contributing factors to keep you energized + symptom free. Even the healthiest diet in the world isn’t useful if it can’t be both well digested and then well absorbed. And we need healthy body parts to ensure optimal function. When digestive health is suboptimal things can go wrong quite quickly in other functions of the body. Dis-ease begins!... When supporting clients I’m looking to MAXIMIZE what’s needed for this unique person. MINIMIZE what’s harmful for this unique person. PRIORITIZE to help create an environment for healing for this unique person. This looks different for each and every one of my clients. Most importantly it gets them relief and resolution to symptoms. Functional medicine is the answer people are looking for when wanting RESOLUTION to symptoms. We should chat if you desire resolution to your digestive symptoms too. Book a Discovery Call on my website. . . . #ittakesguts #ittakesgutstobehealthy #functionalmedicine #digestivewellness #digestion #bloating #constipation #diarrhea #nausea #gerd #gas #digestivehealth #microbiome #extremefatigue #lowenergy #poorcomplexion #thyroid #migraines #headaches #healthcoach

What if you could read a transcript of the silent conversations you have daily with yourself? Would they be positive or negative self talk... I get it, we can all fall into funk from time to time but what if that ‘from time to time’ turns into ALL the time. Here’s a tip to help shift your mindset and gain perspective.... Ask the right questions! It’s important to separate yourself from your mindset and stand back to evaluate. Huh? I’ll explain, at times there can be a voice in your head that speaks negatively, if you pause to listen and realize that it’s just mental chatter. This will give you perspective and be able to ask YOURSELF the right questions. Check in with these questions: 1 what is the worst that can happen in this scenario? 2 what am I really afraid of? 3 what am I avoiding? 4 what am I really committed to? Your mindset is also reflected in the health of your body. Your thoughts create biochemical reactions in response. Negative self talk is asking the body to respond with a stress response. Reach out if you’d like more resources on mindset. . . . #ittakesguts #ittakesgutstobehealthy #mindsetshift #selftalkmatters #mindfullness #mindbodyconnection #moods #emotionsmatter #mindgutconnection #relievestress #functionalmedicine #healthcoaching

THE FUNCTIONAL VIEW is what gets my clients the resolution from symptoms that have been playing hard to solve. What makes the functional view so different? I’ll do my best to explain. (Oh and this post isn’t meant to disregard the need for pathological view). 1 the body is viewed as a dynamic and complex interconnected system of mind, body, and emotions... 2 emphasis is placed on identification of areas of imbalance or dysfunction in normal physiology 3 treatment addresses the underlying causes of dysfunction 4 major focus is spent on creating lifestyle habits that contribute to educate, inspire and motivate sustained changes Through my highly individualized 1:1 health coaching based on the functional medicine, I partner with women like you to solve digestive distress (and the symptoms that result from it) with personalized protocols, support, and education. Your body is one integrated system, not a collection of independent organs that should be divided up by medical specialties. Let’s start approaching it as such. Together, we’ll treat the whole system, not just the symptoms. And we’ll get you feeling better than you ever thought possible. Can you name all these squash varieties?...If you had asked me 5 years ago and I wouldn’t have been able to name even one... It’s SO easy to get stuck in a food rut! So what’s the secret to getting unstuck? Meal planning solves this issue completely. And another tip is to plan from one source. It could be a website or recipe book that will inspire diversity in your choices. Planning from the same source alleviates overwhelm and reduces distraction.... I’ve had fun experimenting with squash varieties this fall. My favourite is the DELICATA squash!! It requires minimal prep (no peeling necessary!), it’s surprising easy to slice and it’s flavour is slightly nutty and sweet. And squash are the perfect slow carb too. A healthy microbiome requires diversity in whole food choices! It’s time to find some new food stars in kitchen! I got this lovely variety of squash from @blumtbiodynamic with my weekly food delivery. . . . #ittakesguts #ittakesgutstobehealthy #microbiome #delicatasquash #mealplanning #guthealth #digestivehealth #digestivewellness #slowcarb #functionalmedicine #healthcoach #fallfoods #squashrecipes #producedelivery #fooddiversity #foodfix #bloodsugarbalance #goodguts See more

The state of having insufficient or low stomach acid is called hypochlorhydria. Most think that heartburn is caused by too much stomach acid. When its often the exact opposite (too little)! Watch this video to understand why good strong acid is essential for digestive health! >> its most common symptoms (e.g. acid reflux, post-meal bloating in upper GI tract, post-meal belching)... >> its most common effects (nutrient deficiencies include iron, B12, magnesium, and amino acids, the latter due to protein maldigestion and pathogenic bacteria or yeast/fungal species or parasites in the intestines) Got questions? I can get you answers.

SAUERKRAUT is one of my favourite probiotic richfoods. I even have a mini fridge regularly stocked for my obsession... Fermented foods were a turning point for me with my own health. And I know for many others too! I’m a girl that went from eating McDonalds two cheeseburger meals back in the day to making my own homemade sauerkraut. I’ve come a long way with my food choices. A very long way!!! And my body is feeling better then EVER! Many will say, ‘I’m not into sauerkr...aut’. Ummm...that’s probably because you haven’t tried homemade. There’s a unique event happening in November called the ‘Calgary Fermentation Festival’ and it’s ALL about understanding the need for beneficial bacteria to be in your guts for optimal health. You can’t skip past the need for optimal digestive health to bring healing to ANY part of the body. You just. can’t. period. Check out the content for this up coming online event @lightcellar ! This event will completely change how you view digestive health and will absolutely motivate you to get into the kitchen to craft your very own ferments! I guarantee it. Pictured above is a German inspired sauerkraut with juniper berries that I made recently. EAT MORE SLOW CARBS TO OPTIMIZE YOUR BLOOD SUGAR + GUT HEALTH... Carbs have a bad reputation. Not sure why. You gotta have carbs but the confusion comes the fad diet culture. To carb or not to carb?!? Carbs cover a huge category! Everything from cheesecakes to cauliflower and both fit the carb definition. It comes down to choosing the ‘slow’ carbs that come from WHOLE plant food sources.... High fiber, low sugar ‘slow carbs’, like root veggies are slowly digested and don’t lead to blood sugar and insulin spikes. And supply your gut microbes with good prebiotics. TOP 4 BENEFITS of eating slow carbs: > more nutrients > balanced blood sugar > feed your gut microbiome > weight normalizes Watch symptoms like these go away: > headaches > inflammation > brain fog > fatigue > sugar cravings > puffy skin And many more.... I’ve gotta give @blumtbiodynamic a shout out for supply my family with the BEST tasting slow carbs! Thank you for ALL your hard work effort in bringing farm fresh to my door each week! . . . #ittakesguts #ittakesgutstobehealthy #microbiome #bloodsugarcontrol #insulinresistance #slowcarbs #carbs #rootveggies #digestivehealthcoach #functionalmedicine #feelgood #healthcoach #mindfuleating See more

GUT FRIENDLY BUCKWHEAT PORRIDGE with superfood toppings for breakfast is the ultimate comfort food. ~ Oh and it’s not only gluten free but grain free too. How has this not come across my path before!?! It’s absolutely delicious and simple to make. It’s cooks up the same as oatmeal. Let’s first clear up the name of this seed. There’s NO wheat in buckwheat. It’s actually a fruit seed, which makes it digestible and easy on the gut.... What about nutrients? Loaded. complete protein high in soluble fiber rich in minerals And you can boost nutrients even more by getting creative with your toppings. My porridge has homemade cashew milk + coconut butter + chia seeds + raw honey for toppings. Ingredients 1 cup buckwheat groats 2 cups water Directions In a sauce pan bring water to boil. Add uncooked buckwheat groats. Cover your pot and simmer for 10 minutes. Then turn off heat and let it sit for about 10 more minutes. Now its ready for your toppings of choice. I know...simple right?!? I get my buckwheat grouts and dreamy coconut butter from @lightcellar . . . #ittakesguts #ittakesgutstobehealthy #buckwheatporridge #grainfreebreakfast #oatmealreplacement #completeprotein #digestivehealth #functionalmedicine #comfortfood #chiaseedsbenefits #nutrientdense #gutlove #loveyourguts
