An interesting statistic contributing to the shortage of properties for sale compared to buyers looking, is the amount of first time buyers coming into the market. Instead of needing to sell a property as well as purchase, they don't have an existing property to put back into the market. However with interest rates and all time low it's certainly a great time to become a first time home owner!
